Took the new Pup to the vet today to get spayed.
Just got a call from them letting me know that she is pregnant.
Early stage and they are counting 15 babies.
:yikes:
It was a tough decision but they have been aborted.
Let the hate posts begin.

You absolutely did the right thing. I know it couldnt have been easy, but definitely the right choice to make. More people should be that responsible.

I know nothing about dogs and am not trying to start a flame war of any kind.
Why is this the right thing? Is it simply not bringing the unwanted puppies into the house or is there a health risk to the dog for carrying so many?

I would have done exactly the same thing. Carrying 15 puppies to birth would have been incredibly difficult, not to mention how hard it would be to place 15 little doggies.

Not sure about the health risk, but, if you cant take care of 15 puppies, feeding them, vetting them, etc. not to mention trying to find responsible owners for 15 puppies, then you shouldnt bring them into the world. There are too many unwanted dogs and cats now because people dont do the right thing by their pets.

Vet called back.
Out of surgery and Pup is doing well.
17 total. (wow)
Dr. estimates she was about 4 weeks along, so she was already knocked up when we adopted her.
The farm she was on had 2 male Great Pyrenees.
I bet those puppies would of been beautiful.

Wow! 17 (even if some did not make it to full term) is definitely a lot of pups. Glad to hear she is doing well, and no "hating" from me either!
:yay:.... that was an OK call to make.
.... lets say she did have 17 of them... if she had an issue you would have had a :jameo: bill....
and then that was 17 pups you would have had to place in homes!! (and hope they never got turned into the shelter)
hope all is well with your pup!!!

Welllllllllll.
We just got back from the Emergency Vet in Huntingtown.
I f'ed up and let the Pup go potty in the backyard by herself (no leash) Golden (other Pup) wanted to play.
Well, new Pup got too excited and blew an artery (something like that) at her incision.
I stopped the bleeding with her lying down but every time she got up she would start bleeding again. Ran her up to the Emergency Vet. All is well now, but I'm in trouble. Poor Pup is now not allowed to go out by herself and take a $hit in privacy. And she has to wear that funky plastic funnel collar thing.

Getting a little concerned.
Pup hasn't pooped in a couple days.
Is that common with a spay (surgery)?
Appetite is good.

I think the anesthesia constipates both humans & animals. Try giving her some canned pumpkin or even some cooked sweet potato. Make sure she drinks plenty of water, too.

When we first got home from the vet (after the spay), she took a dump that was a little bit of diarrhea. So I scooped it up and took it back to the vet to get analyzed. Come to find out she has Coccidia (parasite), have her on meds for that and also giving her FortiFlora for the diarrhea.

F.
She did it again.
Last two times she was in her crate pawing at the bedding and next thing I see blood dripping.
We wrapped it and got the blood to stop flowing, but she will be going to the vet in the morning, even though we don't have an appointment.

Is she bleeding from her spay incission? If so and if you have a 6" ace wrap...take a small hand towel, place it over he incission, and wrap the ace wrap around her to hold it in place and apply some pressure at the same time. But not too must pressure.
Sounds like there is a small artery that refuses to heal!
Good luck!! You are a good "Dad'!!!

That is what we have done, now.
Only time she started bleeding is when I took off the wrap, to let the incision get some air & heal.
Didn't like keeping the wrap on too long.
Thanks for the help.

You can also use an old tee-shirt..put it on backwards..tail thru the neck..and you can snug it up to keep pressure on the incission.
Her hind legs thru the arms...moderate pressure is fine, as it will not hurt/hinder the wound or abdominal circulation.
It is just like a compression dressing on a belly wound.
The incission does not need air, it needs to clot.
Good luck at the vet!!!!:buddies:
