View Full Version : Bacon - a metaphor for life

How you cook bacon says a lot about you.

There are those who just dump the whole pound in the pan all willy nilly, crank up the heat, stir it around a bit when they remember, ending up with some burnt parts and some raw parts all on the same strip - pure bacon chaos.

Then there are those who lay the strips neatly in the pan, cook over a medium heat, tending and turning frequently, ending up with perfectly crisp, evenly cooked strips of lusciousness.

How you cook bacon typically corresponds with how you "cook" your life.

And then, there is the great middle, neither chaos nor precise, all that vast room in the middle, a veritable bacon rainbow of degrees of order and mess.

If you see a rainbow in your bacon then it has probably gone bad.:barf:

What about those who eat that pre-cooked thin stuff you just throw in the microwave?

I cut the slices in half and stir them around. No burnt and I prefer on the softer side.

I used to be the perfect strip person, then did the microwave thing and then started the half mash.

Easier or better? I prefer the curly softer swirls of bacon heaven.

Burnt bacon is as bad as burnt popcorn. JMO.

Bacon laid out on a sheet of aluminum foil on a cookie sheet in a 350 degree oven.

Crispy or wiggly, as long as it aint burnt.

Also if you strain your grease through a coffee filter or cheese cloth you can use it for cookin! I keep a small tupperware container in the fridge for just that.

:yeahthat: You know it's time to check the bacon when the smoke alarm goes off.

I don't strain it. I want those 'lil bits when I fry my eggs in them.

I wonder how many of us will have breakfast for dinner.

I love cooking bacon in Kuwait. Fills up the whole floor of the apartment with the sweet aroma of cooked swine. Haha. Have had guys over here sell strained bacon grease to people how don't have access to the bases.

I use the secret Rachel Ray recipe:

4 thick slices in the microwave for 5 minutes.... Bacon perfection.
