View Full Version : What the heck, no sound?
Sound was working fine now nothing. Checked wires, volumes, etc. Google mentions something called a sound card but for the life of me I can't figure out what that is. I went to the control panel, device manager and sound but I don't see anything wrong there. Any ideas?:cds:

Have you re-booted?
Most sound cards are built onto the motherboard now. Restart computer?

:yeahthat:
Have you changed the monitor fluid, too?
Have you re-booted?
Tried some sort of recovery that was suggested and it re-booted then but still no sound. I'll try a re-boot again.

Check the mute selection
:yeahthat:
Some keyboards have a button to mute sound. You might have accidentally hit it. That's the first thing I would look at. Check to see if the "speaker symbol" in the taskbar tray has a red circle with a line through it. If so, then sound is muted.
If that isn't it, then bang on it and try again. :sarcasm:

How long has it been since you've changed your sound filter?

How long has it been since you've changed your sound filter?:yeahthat: Apparently my setup was too close to the clothes dryer and the sound filter kept getting clogged with lint.

Do you speakers have an on/off button? Do they take an outside power source, is it plugged in?
Plug a set of headphones in, if you hear them then the amplifier on the sound circuit could have died (happened to me before) and a set of amplified speakekrs fixed it.

Hearing aid battery dead?
It's working now, yet I have no idea why. Rebooted again, not working, unpluged speakers and plugged back in, Ran through control panel settings, shut the darn thing off for an hour or so, now it's working. I have no idea which, if any of these things prompted it to work again. I love computers...:sarcasm:
