My black lab seems to have rubbed her nose so much on her food bowl rugs during the day yesterday that she scraped her nose and it started bleeding. I say seemed because no one actually saw what happened. I noticed blood spots on the rug so I checked her feet first. Then while I was staring at her I realized her nose was scraped (but not bleeding anymore). She has never done this before. And she didn't rub her nose on anything last night. (Mind you the husband was with her all day, but never noticed the blood spots or the scraped nose... men :shakingmyhead:)

We are taking her to the vet next week for shots any how so we will ask the vet about it then. Or do you think I shouldn't wait? Can I put something on her nose?

Is it possible she had itsy bitsy bloated baby ticks on her nose in that area? How close did you look?

Seriously... newly hatched ticks are hard to see and if she stuck her nose in a nest of 'em she could have picked up a number of them that stuck in the same area. I've seen it before.

Put some A&D ointment on it - you can get it at Walmart,in the baby care aisle.

Wash her nose with a washcloth, soap and hot/warm water for at least 20 seconds...( sing ABC song), repeat, THEN apply ointment as needed.
But first clean the area well to remove any of those unseen bugs or germs.
And check the color of the washcloth to see if there are ticks or whatever.
Poor pup. :(

All of the above and is her food bowl plastic? If so change out to pottery or stainless steel. Sometimes plastic food or water bowls can irritate them around the nose or mouth area.

Thanks for your help. I cleaned and put some ointment on it and she seems fine now. (She does have a stainless steel bowl). Maybe she just lost her mind momentarily while her favorite human left her at home to go to the grocery store. If I find out any more from the vet, i'll let you know.
