Welcome to SOMD. I know there is daycare facilities on base. You could probably find out more info on that, call my ex daughter-in-law Keetje(KAY-CHA)Straub at 301-342-4498, she is director at the before and after school teen center on base and could be of great assistance to you. As for work, sorry can't help but good luck anyway.

It would depend on where in SoMD you are located in order to get recommendations.

Welcome!
Perhaps this might help for childcare...

Any chance you want your kids to be bi-lingual? I have a cleaning lady who also babysits. She actually doesn't speak English, but hey, they say immersion is the best way to learn anyway. She's looking for more work, and she's really sweet. Plus, she would come to your house (and clean, too) so it'd be more like a nanny than day care, if that appeals to you.

Well we are located in Lexington Park and I think I have already found childcare ; now I just need the job. I have mostly have experience with clerical and administrative jobs but I have an AA in Sociology/Criminal Justice so hopefully that will help me get a job. So what is there to do with small kids in the area??

Check out the SOMD classified section first. I just looked and found this (http://classifieds.somd.com/cgi-bin/classifieds.cgi?db=f_employment&session_key=&search_and_display_db_button=on&results_format=long&db_id=20908&query=retrieval)in the first 3 listings. I didn't go further, but you might want to look there for something. :howdy:
How small are the kids?

Hopefully you'll get some responses from the regulars on here with little ones. In the meantime, check this (http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/greatstate/stmarys_2010/#/0) out as it may give you some ideas. My kiddos haven't been that age for years and I'm more familiar with Calvert. Cove Point pool (http://www.co.cal.md.us/residents/parks/events/covepointpool/)in Calvert wouldn't be too far away for you if you don't mind driving over the TJ bridge so that might be something to keep in mind for the summer.

There is also a pool and some playgrounds on base. When it's warmer there is a splash park at Nicolet Park, just outside of base. Bad neighborhood, but I haven't heard of any splash park issues.
There is a bounce house type facility on Great Mills Road (Jump House? I can never remember the name, it's next to that dollar store) that the kids might occasionally enjoy.
For child care you might also look into these resources. Daycare providers are required to be licensed in MD and they go through regular inspections. These sites list the results:
2011 and newer (http://www.checkccmd.org/) Pre-2011 (http://msdecompliancereports.org/mccdefault.asp)
There is a fairly active mom's group in Calvert and they can be found on Meetup.com, but they do most of their activities during the day so if you're working it might not be as valuable.

Giant is more expensive. Food Lion is less expensive, but I don't like it. I shop SFW.

I do most of my shopping at Giant (which is more expensive) because I like that it's clean and has good variety. Plus I love the stupid little mini-sized shopping carts. :(
Shopper's is my second choice because they are close to my house, have the necessities (milk, frozen veggies, etc) and are open later in the evenings.
Walmart is cheapest, but the selection is pretty meh. If you're looking for a specialty item or a special flavor of something they probably won't have it unless it's really popular.
I'll stop at McKay's on very rare occasion. Their selection hasn't impressed me and the layout of the store is just weird.
I won't go to Food Lion. When I first moved out here I was in the Leonardtown area and they were the only option. I'd go in to get milk or something really common and the shelves would be totally bare. WTF?
Best price around here is the base commissary, I believe. Target also has a grocery section but I think they are very overpriced.
