View Full Version : Looking for a Church

I am from the south and attended a Missionary Baptist Church there. We have been to a number of Baptist and a few Pentecostle churches here in SOMD but have yet to find anything similar to the one we left. I thought it may save us a lot of time to just ask those from this area if such a place exists here. I guess we can get used to things that are different but are looking for something more along the lines of where we came from. I am in no way insinuating that different is bad or wrong... just not what we are used to.
For starters we would prefer KJV doctrine.
We would prefer to not have Praise and Worship exclusively for the music. We like the old hymns mostly and Southern Gospel songs. It kills our backs and knees to stand for an hour while the P&W band plays. (just being honest) We love to hear 4 part harmony and a real piano.
We would like to feel like we have been to church and what I am saying is that the word of God is preached with conviction not simply read from a power point presentation. We would be ok if there wasn't even a projector in the sanctuary.
I guess that is a start, would love to hear of any SOMD Churches that may be a good fit.
Thanks,
Mark

Find a church that preaches the Bible, with no add-ons. If the Bible does not suffice, then..........who knows?

Patuxent Baptist Church is one you may want to think about.
You can find out more at Welcome to PBC (http://www.patuxentbaptistchurch.org)
Great pastor, KJV bible.
Victory Baptist Church (http://www.victorybaptistchurchmd.org/)
Can not speak personally but my SIL attends this church and really likes it. I have been for several events and they are very welcoming. Even though it is not my church the pastor is great and it is KJV

What area are you looking in? I am a member of Victory Baptist Church. We are an Independent Baptist Church, sing traditional hymns and the Pastor preaches strictly from the King James Version. Patuxent Baptist is also an Independent Baptist Church that uses only the King James Version.

Hi! I'm a misplaced Southerner as well. Welcome to Maryland. I understand where you are coming from. I love the old gospel hymns, but they just aren't played around here. And NONE of the churches are going to be anything like home:frown:
My favorite Baptist Church is bit up the road, but they are Southern Baptist and carry a lot of the elements you are looking for. You didn't say where you were located. The fellowship is great and the music is mixed, but not all modern. You'll know many of the songs. Bayside Baptist is in Chesapeake Beach, MD
Welcome to Bayside (http://baysidebaptist.com/)
My next favorite church is Leonardtown Baptist which is Southern Baptist as well. Music is mixed. Both Preachers are pretty awesome, lots of bible study, fellowship and individual groups and social events. Leonardtown Baptist has two locations - one in Leonardtown and the other in Callaway.

Oh and I say these churches are Southern Baptist, however, that's because they are affliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. They are not like any of the Southern Baptists I ever grew up with.
Good luck with your visiting. I hope you find a place you can call home here and can keep in your mind, that sometimes change isn't all bad.
As an aside, every year in St Mary's there is a Bluegrass Festival to look forward to.

Mark,
I don't know if you have come to Leonardtown Baptist Church, but you are MORE than welcome to come. We have a unique church. The church is on Hollywood/Leornardtown Rd and we have 2 services on Sunday mornings: 8:30 service, Adult Bible Fellowship (Sunday School) at 9:50, then a second service at 11:15 (same as the first; just too many people to have in sanctuary at one time).
We ALSO have a second campus at the Kings Christian Acadamy in Callaway. Adult Bible Fellowship starts at 9:00, and the service starts at 10:30. The Callaway campus is a smaller group, but there are MANY fabulous people at both locations. Both preachers LOVE the Lord, and the sermons are completely Bible based.
You can check us out at: Leonardtown Baptist Church - Welcome to LBC! (http://www.lbcmd.org)
Good luck, and we would LOVE to meet you.

Mark,
I've been thinking about your post. When I joined the Navy (years ago), and left home, I couldn't find a church I liked. None were like my home church in the South. Eventually, I realized that I needed to find a Bible believing church, and let God do the work. Rereading your original post, you had a lot of "requirements" for a church. I'm pretty sure you will not be happy with ANY church around here is you stick to those criteria. Please don't misunderstand my words. I'm not trying to beat you down at all. I'm talking from my own personal experiences. God is Good, and if you let Him, you will find a place you can be fed.

King James Only. If it was good enough for Paul......

The church of Christ on St Andrews church rd sings a lot of the "old" hymns, and in 4 part...however it is acappela which I personally prefer.
