Not what color your hair is today, but what color it is naturally. IF YOU ARE GRAY - pick the color you had prior!!!

All Brown haired people please pick light/medium brown.

I'm just curious. If you want to volunteer that you dye, bleach or highlight your hair -feel free.

I color my hair a lot because I've been going gray since I was a teen.

I saw my first gray hair when I was 19 years old.

Looking in the mirror, it seems that I still have more pepper than salt, although when I get haircuts, I'm astonished by the amount of gray I see in the floor sweepings. The past two years have given rise to a couple of blinding sprouts in my facial hair. :/

Genetic mutations, DNA strands and even the area in the world that your ancestors hail from has been given in the past as reasons for your hair color.
Human hair color - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_hair_color)

However if you look into it, everything is pretty speculative.

What's definitely known is hair color happens because of a kind of pigment called melanin (eumelanin and phomelanin).

If your hair has a lot of eumelanin, it will be black; a little eumelanin and your hair will be blonde.

 I'm curious about genetic traits and different observations and various outcomes. This is in no way a true scientific study, but more like a sampling from an amateur science buff.

And I'm curious.... what would go into the "Other" category? Natural hair colors are kind of limited in variety.

I voted "other", because my hair is 40% Blonde, and 60% Grey!

Gray. And I don't even have to color it that way.

My hair is my natural color right now, a light brown with a hint of red-ish. but I didn't color it while pregnant or since, so it has been awhile since i did something fun...but I have done evrything fron bright red highlights, to two tone, to purple panels..hair is so fun.

Yes, but I didn't want to discount the "strawberry blondes" or the people who just like to vote in polls without really wanting to volunteer any info.

You should have voted Blonde :nono:

I was born a blonde and there are pictures to prove it. But I developed jet black hair shortly after. As I aged, by hair lightened into almost black with red undertones and gray hair. Nowadays I'm bottle brown. But I still chose "Black" for the purpose of this tread/poll.

Gotcha... And I see a few mentions of gray. I should have thought "gray" since I actually brought it up in my post.

And, by the by - just throwing this out there in case anyone is curious - the carpet does, in fact, match the drapes.

You're welcome for the mental image.

I clicked light/medium brown but my natural hair color is dark brown.

Wenchy

Dark brown isn't an option so I selected "other".

I might be 5% gray at this point but the color is still quite dark.

The truest way to find out your current natural color would be to shave your head bald and then evaluate after two months of new growth with no dying/bleaching.

Actually - there really isn't a dark brown. There is brown or black. All folks who feel their hair is "dark" Brown - will be going into the brown category. But I think some of you belong in "black" personally.

BTW, I saw someone vote other who fits in a category listed. :nono:  I will be correcting that as well on my statistics sheet.

While you are in your lab, could you please tell me what color I should buy to color my hair? I am a natural blonde. A month ago, I decided to cover some of the grey I have sprouting up, mostly at my temples. It's not really grey, but WHITE! Bright White.

So I decided to go darker. I chose a dark blonde/light brown. Even let it sit longer than recommended to cover the grey. The first day or two it looked like it had some auburn highlights, but after two days, IT'S THE SAME BLONDE!! WTF???? I thought going darker was supposed to be easy?

Actually since my mom was blonde, I know the answer - don't dye it. Let it go gray. My mom was completely "gray" in her mid-thirties. She was PLATNIUM Blonde without ever bleaching.

My hair has natually gotten a little darker blonde in the last 10 years, but I don't want to look older than I am! My grandmother and mother both had/have the beautiful silver gray. When I'm 75, I wouldn't mind it being that color either, but now?? :bawl:

Wrong. My mother's natural hair color is dark brown and not black. My natural hair color is dark brown and not black... my daughter who, like me, was completely blonde as a babe... is now 17 and her hair color is now dark brown.

Something I learned from my hair lady... if you are going to color at home and you want to go brown without "pulling red" which is when you end up with brown hair with reddish highlights.... you need to look for "cooler" and not "natural", "ash" or "warm".

Perspective thing. Of course you have "dark" brown and the brown categroy was the correct place to be, for the purpose of this poll, which is where you are. Perfect. I should have just put a generic brown so there was no confusion. Totally my fault for not communicating on the correct wave length.

Nope. It was just a conversation. I should do a poll. I'll pull the Martin Schult scale of colors and hopefully there won't be any confusion.

I was born with zero hair, then it was wispy and blonde, now I have a head of super thick brown hair. It was dirty blonde/sandy brown until I had my son and now it's more of a medium-dark brown with natural golden highlights. I haven't colored my hair in years so it's 100% natural with a few grays sprinkled in.

I also went with what my hair color was when I was 20-ish: towards the darker side of the browns.
Somewhere in my mid- to late-twenties, I noticed the grays, so I've been coloring since then (about 20 years - Yikes!) I've decided that when I hit the big 5-0, I'm going to stop coloring. (Maybe I'll do what one previous poster said and just shave my hair off and let it regrow, natural-colored!)

Only my hairdresser knows for sure. She mixes this & that, highlights, lowlights and it's what I have now. Took her 4 years to talk me into it! :yay:

I was originally a medium brown with reddish/blonde highlights in the summer from the sun. I've used Revlon's Medium Golden Brown for years when I do my own color.

Most of my life, I worked outdoors and my hair got bleached by the sun. My natural hair color is brown and I have never ever colored it. Even as I am getting some gray, I doubt I ever will color it.
ALL of my siblings went gray young- then again they all had kids. Maybe I did do something right!
