This just in from Charles County Public Schools...
T.C. Martin students donate to charities in economics project
Second-grade students at T.C. Martin Elementary School recently raised money through an economics project to donate to the Charles County Humane Society and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Second-grade classes study economic principles including production, scarcity, opportunity costs, consumption and interdependence. To better understand the production principle, students participated in a gradewide project in which they produced and sold Snowman Soup to the student body. Snowman Soup includes a hot chocolate packet, Hershey's Kisses, marshmallows and a minty stirring stick tied together with a short poem. During a three-week period, students planned, advertised, gathered materials, produced, sold and delivered the Snowman Soup to their customers. More than 700 packets were sold, with a profit of approximately $370. Each charity received $100 and a small portion of the profits went to Martin's Relay for Life team. Charles County Public Schools provides 26,700 students in grades prekindergarten through 12 with an academically challenging education. Located in Southern Maryland, Charles County Public Schools has 35 caring community schools that offer a technological advanced, progressive and high quality education that builds character, equips for leadership and prepares students for life, careers and higher education.
