I've been using a so-so vet. Looking for one I will be thrilled with. Suggestions for the Chas. Co. area would be appreciated.

Scenario goes something like this.....Horse was diagnosed with moon blindness. 100% certain, use this stuff. Symptoms disappeared and came back. Vet HAD to make a farm call to re-diagnose. Yep, same problem, continue treatment and if that doesn't fix it we'll change meds and no need to come back. When it came back, they wouldn't change meds unless they came out for a farm visit. :cds:

So.....I really want a second opinion before deciding on a permanent switch. And it's time for spring shots and coggins so now is a good a time as any.

Dr. Runde from Tidewater is a personal favorite of mine. I also like Dr. Tacia, also Tidewater.

Moon Blindness, ugh!! For local vets, Dr. Tacia and Dr. Runde, Dr. Benedict at Tidewater.
If you want your specific difficult problems solved by more specialist types, head on down to Woodside Equine in Ashland, VA. Dr. Berry or Dr. Anderson.

We love Dr. Tacia at Tidewater. Dr. Runde is great too. We have been using Tidewater for over 20 years and Dr. Tacia has been doing the horses for over 10. Since she knows us and the horses so well sometimes all we need to do is call and she can give us help over the phone. Most vets will NOT do that, and in part I cant blame them. It is best for them to see what they are diagnosing for themselves. It helps to have a good, long term relationship with a vet!

I think if the vet has already come out twice in 3 weeks for the same issue, if a third visit is needed to rediagnose what they have diagnosed twice before, it should be free.

Just seems strange to me that if this is what they diagnosed, horse gets better then they diagnose again (assuming a second farm call) then a third. It's a no brainier for me.

Hate to say it, but I think it's time to get another vet. Forget the second opinion although they will re-evaluate for themselves. Sounds familiar and I won't go into the details except to say it seems to be about the money . .

I have had issues pertaining to the eye in my horses in the recent past. I use Anne Weigt,DVM Animal Eye Care 410-224-4260. You can trailer to her facility in annapolis or huntingtown or she can come to you.

:dingding: I don't trust this vet anymore. Seems to be more about collecting money more than taking care of the family pets. Feel like I was lied to and I have zero desire to give that someone money.

Great, a specialist might be just the ticket I wasn't thinking about.

Didnt mean that I thought what your vet was doing was right.. It does seem a little fishy. It does not surprise me though as I think some vets do this often..I know human doctors do it all the time!
I hope you find a great vet that you are happy with and can establish a good long term relationship with!
I personally like the eye specialist idea for this particular case.

I didn't take it that way, no harm/no foul.

Trailered to the Annapolis office Friday. Office is next door to the MVA, not too difficult to locate. Appt. schedule was close to being on time. All in all, went ok. No glasses or contacts needed at this time.

Nutz - My horse was diagnosed with moon blindness 7 - 8 years ago. We used Dr. Rundee, who was amazing, and we also used Anne White an equine opthamologist from annapolis. They both helped us so much. My girl was diagnosed when she was 2 and Dr. Rundee and Anne White helped a lot.

Also! If you don't already know, MSM is a good supplement for the moon blind babies to be on. :) It helps a lot.

When I was in Charles County (Nanjemoy), I loved loved loved both Dr. Tacia and Dr. Lisas from Tidewater in Charlotte Hall. Best vets EVER.
