World News - Heaven scent: Pope orders eau de cologne that he alone may wear (http://worldnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/03/14/10691002-heaven-scent-pope-orders-eau-de-cologne-that-he-alone-may-wear)
At 84, Pope Benedict XVI has proven to be a spiffy dresser. He wears cherry red loafers that landed him in the pages of Esquire magazine as the “accessorizer of the year,” he’s been spotted wearing sunglasses by Gucci and been outfitted by the Italian fashion house, Belstaff. Now, according to the Guardian, il Papa has commissioned his own brand of eau de cologne, a scent that only he may wear.

Is it me or do these actions seem a little vain? Nothing against the Pope, but I always thought plain was the order of the day.

I suppose if someone wanted to give me Prada shoes and create a scent just for me at no cost I wouldn't turn them down, but it does seem somewhat vain doesn't it.

Pope orders cologne that only he may wear.
Gee, now it seems to me, after reading the article, that the cologne maker is the one who opted to make it only for the pope. The word order here is cleverly placed to sound like he issued a command vs. that he ordered as in purchased. Like he even has the power to order that a cologne may only be worn by him. Give me a break!
If someone opts to give an 84 year old man a gift of Prada shoes then I think it's ridiculous to expect suggest that he shouldn't wear them. Prada and Gucci are probably not as expensive in Italy as they are here, either.
Dope.

There's nothing gay about smelling good. Ask any woman here, men who smell good are heavenly (pun intended).

At the cost of the perfumer giving the gift, fair 'nuff.

Article excerpt regarding the cologne designer:
She did not, however, divulge what the cologne would be called.
Breaking News! A knock-off cologne has just been developed and will be called: "Pope-pourri" - coming soon to your local retail stores.

I wonder if there will be a fragrance blessed by the former virgin Mary especially for Catholic tithers, along with a watered-down, less potent version for just the masses...

As far as my understanding goes, Jesus and his buddies smelled like wine. What's your point?

Perhaps nhboy is employed by Anheuser Busch or works for one of its marketing agencies. He could have simply stated that the "smell" was of beer. But, oh no, he mentions a specific beer which constitutes free advertising by giving a brand-specific plug on this forum. :buddies:

You're Protestant, you should be used to watered down.

Wine...and fish. The odor of sanctity?
