I was just notified about a pure bred neutered male boxer, 1 year old, docked tail, natural ears, tan & white, that is available. Professional couple got him as a puppy but are finding they don't have enough time for him. Couple want to see him in a home where people have time to play with him and he has space to run.

why does he look pitbullish to me if he's pure boxer? Is it just the angle of the pics?

More information from the current owners:
"Bruce is very energetic, loves to play, and loves attention. He is a very smart dog and was easy to train for what I was able to teach him. At a very young age and without a lot of emphasis, he knew that his place for timeout was on the blanket or mat.
He loves kids and does okay with other dogs and we have not had any incidents. If he would have it his way, he would be in the bed with you or lounging on the couch. We didn’t allow him to do that but he has slept in the bedroom on his pillow. He absolutely loves toys and loves to fetch and for you to chase him. We play a game of chase with the toy or stick. He also loves to play with water as he chases the water from the water hose.
After some good playing and exercise he’s ready to relax for the evening on his pillow. He understands “poo poo” to use the bathroom and is trained to go to one spot in the yard."

PS from owner:
"Additionally, he understands “let me see” if you or the veterinarian wants to inspect his mouth. And understands “no teeth or no bite” when playing."
Sounds like a very energetic (typical boxer), and well adjusted dog!

I'd think he was PB by his square head. His jaws even look PBish. Biscuit has the typical droopy jaws I'm used to seeing on Boxers.
I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one that thought the original pics of this boxer looked more pitty.

The people that bought him probably didn't know any better just as I wouldn't if I got a purebred "anything" basically. The quality breeders know the difference though <G>.

I was just notified that Bruce the Boxer was seen at the Humane Society in Charles County. You gotta love how dedicated people are to their pets. :sarcasm:
I did what I could to try to find him a home, but critters don't usually find a new home in 1 week.
OMG, that is terrible Ark!! I hope that he finds a new & loving, Boxer Knowledgeable home.!!

Owner confirmed they did turn him over to HS. I replied asking of they can redeem him. My ultimate goal is to keep as many pets OUT OF THE SHELTER as possible. To do this I need people to give me time to help. I can't perform magic and find a big dog a home in 1 week. Small dogs are easier but big dogs take time usually.
IF they are able/willing to redeem him, can anyone foster him? I can't pull dogs yet (soon). I really feel that Bruce deserves a chance. Does anyone know if HS temperament Tested Bruce yet? If so, how did he do? I'll call my contact in the morning to see if I can find out. GRRRR I really wanted to keep him away from the shelter, okay so I know I can't save them all, but I can at least TRY to save those that cross my path.

I left a message at HS asking about Bruce. I mentioned the owner may try to redeem him and I said we were trying to find him a home. In the meantime we need someone who can foster him.
PLEASE can someone foster him if we can get him out of there? He sounds like wonderful dog!

If he was surrendered to the HS in Charles County he will probably be taken to TriCounty soon. I'm not sure what type of temperment testing they do at the HS, but TriCounty will temp test him and if he passes and doesn't get classified at PitX they may put him up for adoption.
Ark, usually when someone has made up their mind to "rehome" (get rid of) their pet, they want them gone NOW and since rescue isn't miracle workers they don't want to wait.
Good luck trying to find a foster for this guy.

I guess I should have communicated directly with the owners that I would ONLY help them IF they kept the dog until we found a home. I just assumed they would.
I somehow doubt HS will give him back to the owner if the owner says they intend to re-home him? Or maybe they will instead of sending him to Tri-County? The owner said he DOES get along with other dogs and he travels well in cars (trips) so I am still holding out hope for finding some to foster or adopt him.
I can't yet pull critters from the shelter or I'd do it myself. If all goes well with our paperwork I'll be able to file with the shelters to pull, BUT I can't pull unless I have a place for the critter to go (foster or home). I am just so limited on space for dogs at my place. Kenneling them isn't an option really (not healthy for them,) so that's why Boxy is still the King of my bedroom LOL. he's such a good boy, and doesn't get into trouble while I'm gone, so I'm pleased he's got a balanced personality in that respect. Oh Boxy was given a new toy to play with and he went bonkers having a blast with it. He's such a fun dog <G>.

Looking like we may be able to spring Bruce the Boxer from the shelter! They are waiting on a final approval from the supervisor there.
Anyone out there able to foster him? Any spots open in a boxer rescue? Even if you can only foster him a week or 2 that would help.

Well I must say that having SOME Boxer experience myself now (even though he's only part boxer lol), I can vouch for the fact that they are unique creatures! I am realizing that my old Boy Quinn (RIP baby, who I referred to as my JRT on Steroids (Rottie)) acted a LOT like a boxer. As a matter of fact Boxy and Quinn have a lot in common. Probably why I'm able to handle Boxy with few issues since I had experience from Quinn.
I realize my limitations, and I would much prefer that Boxer people be evaluating homes for the Boxers, but I guess Boxy will be my case to deal with and hopefully Bruce will get a chance with the Boxer Rescue if the possible adopter this week doesn't work out.

1 old is still YOUNG!!!
and they dont have to go thru house training....
the saved/adopted a boxer the end of last year.. only to find out she was very sick... (owner neglect)
they did more for her the few months she was with them.. than the prior owners ever did for her.
they had to let her go not too long ago..

oh my that's awful. It brought tears to my eyes when I found out they got Bruce out of the shelter - wish I had been there to hug him too. I really hope this works out because the owners did train him well per their description of him, so it isn't like he ran wild w/o training thankfully.
This way the owners can meet and communicate to the adopters all the info. they have about Bruce, and convey all the commands he knows. There will at least be a way for them to have a KNOWN history on him as opposed to relying on ME who knows little about him. I am so much hoping Bruce wins them over.

oh crap well after spending a few days at the shelter, I'm not surprised.
When I took Joey in (Calico girl), she seemed healthy but later that week I realized she had picked up germs at the vet office that updated her shots. She got ALL the cats sick! Oh well at least they made it through and now they have added immunity right?
Every time I go to the shelter, I use gel on my hands several times to be sure to kill the germs so my critters/rescues don't get sick.

PS I told the foster of the Momma/Kittens that I can get them all done at Humane Society at rescue prices. When they are being adopted (i.e. not TNR like ferals), I get them more than just spay/neuter/rabies. I usually do spay/neuter, rabies, distemper, de-worm with ivomec injection, and of course FIV/FELV test. Generally runs about $100 for females and $80 for males.

Trap/Neuter/Release
It has been adopted by many people as the preferred way to deal with feral cats, since so many people were opposed to trapping and killing them (the usual method).
