I'm not sure what all the hype is about, but hubby and I decided to give it a try Saturday afternoon. It had been a while since we went to the movies. Paid our $12 admission, bought a soda and sat down. The best part about the movie was the seating -- nice big comfy chairs and the closest person in front of us was probably 3 feet away.
Anyhow, it is a very slooooow moving. The movie was just slightly above snoozing. It's a definite chick flick as it is centered around a young girl (and the boy who loves her). I've seen more blood from a paper cut. Woody Harrelson was pretty good, and the costumes were funky.
If you're not expecting a lot, this movie is for you! :yay:

Kids love the books. I was told they had to tone down the movie to get a PG-13 rating but the books are pretty intense.

the books suck majorly. The writing is horrible, I cannot believe someone decided to actually publish something that reads like a drunk 4th grader wrote it.
Only reason to go see the movie would be lenny kravitz

that was my other issue..the books aren't *actually* intense..there is violence..but it is in a very strange disspassionate way..intended to be shocking, I guess, but reads like you are reading off a shopping list..and somehow I do not think that was the auther's intended affect.

I haven’t read them yet. I have about 40 pages left in Desperation by Stephen King and then maybe I'll give them a try.

Why?
Because Lenny Kravitz is dead sexy.
I liked the books and the movie, but I can see how the movie wouldn't be that great for someone not familiar with everything that happened in the books. I'm not too pretentious to enjoy a good YA junk-food-for-your-brain book every now and then, and there's no shame in it.

Yeah, but you think Anthony Bourdain is sexy so... :lmao:I'm on your side on this debate, Nickel. I think Lenny is God....or at least MY God. I love him, and I'm convinced that if he were to meet me, he would immediately fall in love with me and demand that I leave my husband so that we could run off together and live in Tahiti under a beautiful moon and we'd live a life sipping frozen drinks on the beach. Or something like that.

But Bob indulges me by having the CD player fully loaded with all of Lenny's music.
I love Bob. Almost as much as I love Lenny.

Wiki says he was named after his uncle, who was killed in the Korean War.

I enjoyed the books and plan on seeing the movie soon. I don't have high expectations as I know they've skipped over a lot of the stuff in the book and rushed it. I was going to go to the first morning show this past weekend since the ticket price was only $4.50 and figured the bratty kids/annoying loud adults weren't up yet, but I can't work myself up to go to the movies alone just yet

I'll rent it when comes out, read the book and it was interestingly different. Too bad they had to go for the PG though. I'm sure it helped the income, but killed the movie

Lenny Kravitz is sexy until you meet him in person. Wiki says he is 5'7" to 5'9" and I am going to say he isn't either - he is 5'5" - shorter than me. He wears shoes to give him height. Call me a snob but it is hard to fantasize about a man who is shorter than me. :drama:
Since I'm curious, I will wait to see his naked self when this movie hits the Red Box.

I think it was PG-13. There was still a lot of killing, but the deaths were quick and the camera didn't linger. One of the deaths in particular (I don't want to give anything away) was much faster than it should have been. They left a lot out, but to be honest I liked it better that way. I already read the book, and I don't know that I could watch Katniss walk around the woods by herself for too long.

Jason Statham is shorter than me and I think he's dead sexy too. I don't plan on ever meeting either so my opinion stands.

My eyes bulged just slightly when I saw it was 2.5 hours long  but yeah it would've been Titanic-like, had they included everything.

Luckily, he's just a smidge taller than I am and I'll be a'ok with that when I marry him
Lenny though, I can definitely do without. I was a bit surprised to see him on the cast list.

Lenny Kravitz was an amazing Cinna. I actually wish they'd included more of the Cinna-Katniss interaction because he was exactly the way I imagined that character to be.

I did the audiobook on a roadtrip thing for Book 1 and 2... working on 3 right now.
I appreciated the movie... but I felt that the story could have been told better as a TV mini-series on HBO or Showtime... one of those channels with a bigger budget...

I read all the books and am going to wait until the movie hype dies down before I go.
I liked the hunger games trilogy. I thought it was interesting. I also liked that the main character was a girl. I also liked the Harry Potter and Twilight series, which I know not everyone liked. I can't think of a movie that was better than then book. I'd always spend like 15 minutes after watching every HP movie venting about all the important things they left out.
I even got my husband to read (and by read, I mean listen to, because now that he's figured out the library has all these books on tape, he's quit reading actual books) the first one and he seems interested in reading the following rest.

Romney gives thumbs up to 'The Hunger Games' (http://content.usatoday.com/communities/onpolitics/post/2012/03/mitt-romney-the-hunger-games-grandchildren-/1)
ZeitGeist | Way Too Early (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26852192/vp/46865319#46865319)
Mitt Romney took a day off from campaigning this weekend, so what did he do in his downtime? He took a couple of his grandchildren to see The Hunger Games.
Romney was asked on CNN today about a picture tweeted by his son Matt, showing him with Matt's two children at the movies.
The GOP front-runner said he is a fan of the Suzanne Collins' books about a dystopian future and "enjoyed" the movie, which hauled in $155 million at the box office during its weekend debut.
"That was weekend fun. It was nice to see a flick for the first time in long time," Romney said.

My daughter insisted we go opening day. The whole family has read the books. We all were a bit disappointed in what was left out in the movie, but they did have to fit a lot into a certain time frame. I agree that it may have been better served as a mini-series.
