The La Plata High School athletic department recently purchased a solar-powered scoreboard for their softball field. Daktronics®, the scoreboard manufacturer, partnered with Sunwize®, a leader in solar power technology, to produce a solar power kit for the scoreboard. The solar scoreboard option allows for power to the scoreboard without installing electrical service. The scoreboard was purchased in efforts to help La Plata provide environmentally-friendly features to students.
The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) summer centers program is offering unique instructional experiences for gifted and talented students entering grades three through 12. The centers offer one to three-week residential and non-residential programs with a focus on the arts, sciences, technology, computer science and engineering. The activities are designed to encourage critical thinking, creativity and problem solving while challenging students academically. An online brochure and application forms are available on the MSDE website at http://www.marylandpublicschools.org/MSDE/programs/giftedtalented/centers. Applications must be postmarked by April 15.
Charles County Public Schools provides 26,700 students in grades prekindergarten through 12 with an academically challenging education.
