Hello -
Six years ago, I had the Greenery build a flower bed in which they planted 6 hydrangea plants. Half were meant to be blue and the other half pink. Only three of the bushes have ever bloomed, and they seem to be a mix (I can't seem to get the soil PH balance right to get truly blue hydrangeas).
But the three other bushes, which are by now over six years old, have never, ever bloomed. Is there something I should be doing so that they will bloom, or is it possible that I was mistakenly given some sort of non-flowering hydrangea bushes?
Yes, I'm a bit of a garden rookie, as you can tell, but any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Have you called the Greenery and asked them about it?

I tried - the landscaping people haven't returned my calls. My next step is to drive up there, but I thought I'd check here first to see if it was something simple I should be doing.

do you know what variety it is? Have you pruned it and if so, when? Are they in full sun, partial shade, full shade???

Hi!
The bed that they are planted in faces northwest - not optimal for full sun, I know, but the three plants that actually bloom are the three on the northernmost side. However, it seems that the other three that don't bloom get just as much sun as the ones that do because of the way the surrounding pine trees are placed.
It's globe hydrangea bush (or is supposed to be, but I've never seen it bloom), and we pruned it about two years ago. I had heard that the flowers will only grow on old wood, so I refrained from pruning it last year to see if that would help, but no luck...

There are varieties that only bloom on old wood. If you have been "pruning" it each year, this would certainly account for a lack of blooms. It might be a bit early in the growing season to decide that it won't bloom this year. Perhaps you could give it another month before deciding that it's not going to bloom this year.

Possibly, but since they've never bloomed even once, I'm not all that hopeful...

my hydrangeas bloom blue but I'm lucky since the soil they're in makes them blue. when I lived in Springfield, VA, they bloomed pink. My bushes are full of leaves but no where near blooming yet. Maybe yours will bloom this year. I trim mine down about every 4 years.
