Someone found a stray pregnant cat and their landlord said the cat has to go immediately. They have the cat inside right now but say the cat keeps trying to go outside.

I may be able to setup a large cage in the barn for her, but wouldn't be ideal. If anyone can offer a room or better place for her than I can, please let me know asap. No telling when she will give birth, so hoping the vet can answer that for us.

I'm willing to take her to be vetted. Not sure if they will do a Rabies on a pregnant cat or not?

Somehow all the efforts of so many people across this Country don't seem to be making much of an impact. The shelters are still over-run. Is it because as the human population increases we end up with MORE humans breeding critters and/or not subscribing to spay/neuter?

ok I called HS and they said the vet that works on Fridays won't do late term spays but the vet that works M-Th will. So I will assume she is pretty far along because the lady told me she seems to be getting bigger by the day.

I'll try to get her today for Thursday at HS or in time for Monday. I agree - glad I posted this so you all could help me figure this out. We don't need anymore kittens to try and place. There are plenty that will be at the shelters.

and if I had my way I'd tell everyone that picked up a injured wildlife animal to put a $.10 bullet in because it's cheaper to do that than pay thousands of dollars to an "animal rehaber" to fix the damn squirrels broken leg than it is to shoot the little f'er. There are thousand of cute little squirrels out there. Do we need to fix an injured one?

It's different if it's a bald eagle or endangered species. Let life take it's course with the rest.

Cat has not been to the vet, so how do you know how far along she is???
Vets DO spay late, seen it, been there, assisted, and cats and dogs did fine!

1. This is not about wildlife. Those get released back to the wild. FYI: No one pays rehabbers to rehab, it is against state law. Rehabbers are all volunteers and pay for everything out of pocket. Want to shot them, have at, I dont care what you do in the privacy of your home, yard, etc.

I was contacted by someone wanting to foster the Momma cat and care for her and the kittens. They said they can assist in finding adoptive homes. I am sure we can work out a way to be sure they are ALL fixed before they go to their new homes so we can avert any future births, and get the Momma fixed/placed too.

I've had several concerned people PM me about her. Since there is someone willing to foster her, and we can be sure to get all involved fixed, I think we should let this happen, especially if she is late term as I suspect she is.

It's a reversion back to the original post, but it's possible the lady saw this thread and wasn't going to release her to me if she thought I might have the kittens aborted. She needs help for the cat. I have contacted her with the information about a foster found and I will put them in touch with each other.

I wish I was financially able to do more than I can now. You've done great to help them, but you know that. It's heartbreaking to know the truth about all the deaths weekly at the shelter. Unless the general public comes to understand how bad it is, and cares enough to help reduce the problem, it may never change.

Everyone doesn't see it the same way, and sometimes I feel stuck in the middle of what I know I should do, and what others see as their side of the situation.

I have assisted in late term Spays, and it is so sad to see the little babes in their pouch. Luckily, I never saw one move, or I would have lost it. It is sad, but what gets to me is people can get free, or discount Spays & Neuters, at least here in Calvert.

I guess I have a hard time with this type of decision. I know the right thing to do is to stop the birthing process before it starts. This whole thread certainly shows all who are reading it just hard it can be on all involved.

New ones born into an already over-populated world just means that at some point down the road, some of those that are born will end up being put down at the shelter too.

I understand. The back and forth I've had with her has gone on for 2 days now via FaceBook.

PS - she was messaging me via FB so I don't even have her email address at this point.

Initially my first thought was "foster". Then realized after being "re-focused" by the realists, that I needed to get her spayed immediately. There IS NO MORE ROOM FOR CATS, yes I know, I do know. We have a handful of cats in our foster program that are still awaiting homes.

When I received an offer to foster her (the initial goal of the thread), I was honest and told the lady who has the stray cat that I had an offer as a foster, and I would put them in touch with each other. I will never be anything less than honest with people about the state of the world with regard to critters (this stance could make ours a less successful rescue?). I also wouldn't lie to anyone either. Maybe I should, but I just can't.

I think some may be misunderstanding, I do have a back bone, I just won't lie to a lady with a pregnant cat, and say the cat will be fostered and the kittens will be fine, when that may not be the case. I can't lie to promote my goal of fewer critters. However if the critter is in my control, I can and will consent to spay when pregnant, and I have done so in the past, at the distress of others around me. When I got the call that the cat is pregnant, I ALWAYS said go forward. When asked in advance my position on aborting litters, I always said yes.

It's not that I'm not committed to aborting litters, it's that the person with the cat asked for help for the pregnant cat. Instead of just saying "we'll take her", my response was we'll see if we can find a foster (dumb I admit), but I won't go back on my word to her.

Buddscreek offered but never contacted the lady with the cat to get it from her as of yesterday. I can understand why you'd not want to read through some of the garbage that was posted in this thread.

I will be glad to give you the lady's contact information so you can call her. I will PM you and I will also let the lady know someone new will be contacting her.

BuddsCreek never called the lady to get the cat, the next person who offered, after days go by, eventually said their landlord said no. After all the days of delays (some possibly intended delays?), the Momma cat gave birth yesterday. I hope that people don't think the delays have changed anything. The Momma cat and all the kittens will likely be put down anyway. We don't have the money to take that many cats to the spay/neuter clinic AND we STILL have adults we are trying to place. So they can't stay with us (we're full), and I'm not going to allow them to go anywhere other than a shelter at this point where I can be assured not one of them will leave without being fixed.

The chances of them all making it out of the shelter alive are slim to none. Maybe a couple kittens will be adopted, but Momma will surely die there, because people want kittens over adults. Fact of life. So we may not have been able to abort the birth in time, but the end result will likely still be the same in that they will end up dead at the shelter anyway. There are just too many critters and not enough homes sadly.

PS had the initial offer come through and she birthed in the home of a foster, the Momma and the kittens would have had a better chance of being adopted. But after the unreliability experienced with offers, and the cold hard fact of over-population, we decided it's best to not allow people to foster litters anymore. Better that the litters be aborted before they come into this over-populated world.

There HAS to be people out there that will adopt a kitty and I think pictures could heighten the desire. My son has been anxious about turning 14 so he can volunteer at the shelter. I thought his desires would fade in time but they haven't and I will say for being so young, he has absorbed so much information about animals. I do think the hardest thing for him will be in the knowing that some, actually many, are put down because they will never find a home.

We will be homing 3 kittens soon. I have to have faith that good homes are out there at this point. My MIL's farm feral is now coming in the house :yikes: (I learned this just started this week) so hopefully they will earn her trust enough to catch her and get her fixed. They don't care that she'll never make a good pet but they certainly want to end her reproducing without killing her. The kittens are about 3 weeks now.

If I wasn't already over-whelmed with critters, I'd take that buff one. Speaking of buff cats, Boxy met Foxy finally, and Foxy is terrified of him LOL All Boxy wants to do is sniff him, and Foxy runs and gets up as high as he can LOL. I'll have to get a picture of that.

I understand what would have been the "better" alternative..but I can't help but be very happy at the outcome..I mean look at them..with their mommy and everything :bawl: It makes me hate people sometimes :( but I am glad these kitties are getting a shot and hope they find awesome homes! I will scout around to see if anyone is ready for a kitty in their life..because evn if this batch is spoken for, I have no doubt there will be other over this spring and summer.

Spoke to my niece. She kept the little boy kitten, but the two girls are at Petco in LaPlata, waiting to be adopted. She said they had lots of kittens available. She found the kittens @ about 4 weeks old. They are so lucky she's the one that found them.

aww sounds great - I am sure they will get adopted there. I'm so glad the pet stores are helping with the rescues. It certainly helps the critters.

Today after work I will be getting back the 2 guinea pigs. Need to find them a new home ASAP as my living room space already has chicks in cages and Teddy, the older male guinea pig who is a resident. It will be tight having 2 pigs in a cage meant for 1 also, and I don't have anything else to put them in that will FIT in living room, so I hope they get adopted fast. Hmm do YOU want 2 adorable guinea pigs ????? :whistle:
