View Full Version : Useless threads and "new posts"
Is there a way to mark all posts from a hyperactive poster so that they do not appear when you search "new posts?"

Can't you put them on some kind of ignore list?

Yeah. The more you ask, the longer and more frequent the posts get.

Hyper posting...so that's what's it's called?
It's been quite annoying. I just refuse to comment on anything they (mostly a he) post. Have them on ignore but the board still clogs up with old news stories.

Nobody is worse at it then the "EmptyTimCup" as that one has really trashed the "Politics" forum.
See here = Politics - Southern Maryland Community Forums (http://forums.somd.com/politics/) and if we look back on the Politics forum back 10 pages or 20, 30, 40 pages and more there is the repeated meaningless postings by the same "EmptyTimCup" and most of them have zero replies as that poster is a one (1) person display.
Of course there are some others like "Odessa78" and "nhboy" who does it too, but not as much the "Empty" one.
People might not like my postings but I stick to only a few threads and I do not start very many threads.
Just giving the name.

Double click the little symbol next to the politic section and mark them all read...It gets rid of the whore! :yay:

I do that with the polictics forum but there's another offender who's all over the place. I have them on ignore but their thread topics still show up, just not what they write.
It would be great if you could ignore all content from any givin user.

Yeah this crap is getting redonkulous. You can't clear the politics on your phone. I've got pretty much all of them on ignore but it still fods up the board.

And just for the record then I say having a "word game" constantly going on and on for years on top of the "Elections (http://forums.somd.com/elections/)" forum is ridiculous.

The "Elections" do not get a lot of activity, but surely it is an important topic for when it does get used.
And it is not just my couple threads as David has announcements there and Vrai gave an announcement but there at top is the never ending word game.

Never ending games are ok. Just take it out of the "political" section. Just don't pay any attention to it. It is as mindless as watching TV.
BTW, was that endless poster nhboy referenced personally? Or is it ok that it seems to be on the left side of things?

I'm not crazy about endless new posts, but what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander - if nhboy gets to flood the political section with threads that he barely comments on once started, certainly EmptyTinCup has as much right to do the same.
That said, I don't see anything to be gained in needlessly multiplying threads, because it often results in duplicate threads. It discourages discussion, causes people to repeat themselves (or worse, "respond" on one thread to another thread, causing pointless confusion). And it pushes relatively current threads off the first page - thus more or less ENDING them.
So I'd be in favor of an upper limit per day of new threads that can be started by one person, although that might do little to hinder people like nhboy who more than likely has several MPD's on here.

I didn't ever notice that it was in Elections. Just moved it to Chit Chat - thanks for the nudge!

I hope FireBrand will chime in as to why he started the thread in elections. But, MY OPINION is that at the time, there was a certain somebody that was posting constant drivel about the St Marys elections and politicians and all his personal BS and he just would not shut up. I frequently posted in the word association just as my way of getting his posts off the top.

I really figured that too near a year ago, but I checked and the start date was 10-5-2010 which is far between the election years and I was not active on the forum at that time, so I decided that it was not started for that reason, even though some other posters were misusing it to disrupt the elections forum.
As such I did not want to make any sort of complaint until after my own election results were done, and now I am out of that section.
My own campaign was doomed anyway, but I am happy that the "word game" is moved now as we still have the big general election coming up in November, and this forum might yet play a part by informing the public about the upcoming elections - and I hope so.

It was started to counteract the absurd saturation of clem shady threads.
Ended up being a lot of fun. Word games define politics.
Maybe I should go ahead and delete it.

People still seem to have fun with it! I didn't remember if it was election related but do remember the nonstop drivel from that dilusional maniac!

Isn't it interesting that postings by that particular MPD continue to be evoked as a detriment to this site even though he's not posted using that identity in months?
It's a lot like herpes, just keeps coming back.

Once upon a time, didn't we have the ability to click "show new posts", and when the list pulled up, there was a little box to the far right side in a column that said "mark as read" and you could click through the whole page and only be left with the tread titles and topics that interested you? I seem to remember that was a really handy feature, especially during the political time of the year. Of course, my memory could be faulty as I am getting senile in my old age.
