9th grader arrested after slashing student with razor | wtsp.com (http://www.wtsp.com/news/article/251112/8/9th-grader-arrested-after-slashing-student-with-razor)
Winter Haven, Florida -- Winter Haven police say a 16-year-old girl has been arrested after she allegedly cut another teenager with a razor blade.
The incident happened Monday morning during class at Winter Haven High School. Police say Rachel Cox, a ninth grader, got into an argument with a male student, pulled out a razor from her book bag and cut the other student twice in the arm.

<-----:gossip: Fully believes that S.M. and Florida are key areas in a hush ...hush.. Government experiment and that the water is being treated with an unknown substance to elevate the occurrence of lack of fashion sense during execution of crimes and the bizarre level /stupidity of crimes.

Not really. The girl could have just turned 16, started school a semester late, etc.
Not making excuses at all for Miss Congeniality, , but ending 9th grade at 16, which here is the freshman year of HS, although not the norm, is certainly not unheard of, depending on birthdate and when/where they started school.
To me, she just seems angry-mad. Another boy/girl in the equation?

my daughter is 16 in the 11th grade. How can you be 16 in the 9th and no have been kicked to the curb at least once?

I'm not defending this girl. I don't know if she missed a year or was set back, moved from another state, or if her birth date had something to do with.
This may help:

2. Does Florida law specify an age requirement for admission into a public school first grade?
No. However, Florida law does specify that all children who have attained the age of six years or who will have attained the age of six years by February 1 of any school year are required to attend school regularly during the entire school term. (Section 1003.21(1)(a)1, Florida Statutes). Although Florida law does not provide a specific age requirement for enrollment to public first grade, the provisions of Florida law related to kindergarten admission and student progression dictate that first grade enrollment be limited to (1) students who turn six years old on or before September 1 who have successfully completed kindergarten; and (2) out-of-state students who turn six years old after September 1 who meet the age requirement for public kindergarten admission from the transferring state, and who have successfully completed kindergarten.
The way I read this, if she turned 6 after Feb 2, and did not start 1st grade until the following school year, she would be seven upon finishing 1st grade.
If that's the case, she would have just turned 16 after Feb 1 while in the 9th grade, which is the grade and age stated in the article.
Unusual, but not unheard of. Also does not mean she was not held back a year, or from another state, whatever.
I would give this nice, considerate young lady the age/grade benefit of the doubt.:smoochy:

Alrighty then.
Wonder what the boy said to her?
You know, in reading over the list of "most read stories" on the right side of the website where the story was, I do believe that I am glad that I am not teaching in that part of Florida -- at least, for now.

I am glad you are not in FL, also. It is sad when a teacher, such as yourself, dedicates their lives to the education of children, which alot of times is a thankless job; has to worry about criminal and out of control behavior in a classroom. I know that problems exist in SoMD, too. Teachers are at risk, also. Let's not mention all the school shootings, but that is another thread. I don't think my punctuation was great on this thread. Trying to eliminate the ...'s. Don't grade me too hard! I think I deserve a C, maybe C+:bann:

I'd give you a B+. The second sentence needs a bit of work. The rest was fine! Effort counts!
