Tempe Boy Wants to Run for Prom Queen (http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/dpp/news/education/tempe-prom-queen-4-18-2012)
TEMPE - A Tempe student planning to attend his prom this weekend is making news for what he wants to wear to the big dance. He wants to wear a dress.
What’s behind his chosen attire?
17-year-old McClintock High School senior River Flanary admits it’s unconventional. He wants to wear a dress and the prom queen's crown.
He is promoting equal rights and privileges for everyone and he wants to change McClintock High's ballot rules so that gender is not a factor.
River Flanary is causing waves on campus after his name got yanked off the Tempe school's prom court ballot.
“I was denied the right to be prom queen,” says Flanary.
He wants the crown to promote gay rights, and planned on wearing a black dress to support the LGBTQ group -- but his message was thwarted.
“They are denying me to do something because of my gender.”
