Have any of you professionals out there heard anything about this? Is it for real? And, why can't the govt. just release a list of the IP addys affected?

Hundreds of thousands may lose Internet in July - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/hundreds-thousands-may-lose-internet-july-181324701--finance.html)

Wow! What a surprise. I'm glad I stopped using Microsoft products on most of my machines here at the house. Nope, I've heard nothing via the Navy, didn't even know about this.

because a lot of broadband users are behind a 'router' with multiple computers ..... and are ignorant of how computers communicate

personally I think this is VERY Scary behavior by the FEDS ......... DNS Changer infected computers today

some unpopular politcal group tomorrow - oh wait, can we kick the OWS'ers off line

I think there should a Net Access License ....... you do not have one, you get stuck in a sandbox with AOL Users ..........

Yeah, I don't think I am going to willingly go to a FBI controlled site, click on "scan my computer" and give them access forevermore.

Need to track him down, and burn down all properties he owns for causing this mess. Perhaps his enviro-whacko buds will help.

Am currently looking at the website - DCWG | DNS Changer Working Group (http://www.dcwg.org) - cited in this article to determine if ones computer is infected.

How do I know if this site is bogus or not???????

The malware in question is legit and there are all kinds of ways to find out if you have it. The FBI just wants you to use their "partner" to find out if you have it.

It's safe, just gives you a link to click on to verify your DNS server is not redirecting you to the wrong site.

However, after you run the test, it puts up a message that basically says 'ok, it was successful, but this is no guarantee that you still don't have that bug'.

Thanx for nuttin'.

I have a question and this was the closest related thread I could find without starting a new thread. Apparently, there was an attempt to hack my daughter's hotmail email account because I was getting security code messages in my account because I am her backup email. Don't know if they successfully got in or not. Also, she thinks her FB account has been compromised because it looks like someone is reading her new messages without her opening them herself. She would like to keep her email address because so many people have it, plus business contacts, etc. and I don't think her FB is totally private where like you have to know her to see info, so unless you have her password, you couldn't read her PM's, right? I don't do FB, so I know little about it. Is it just a matter of changing passwords or should she completely start over with email and FB?

Edit: There were 6 security code emails in my account.

I hope this made sense because I am not internet tech saavy. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thx, mama

with the Facebook, when she's logged in to her account - have her go to the arrow next to "home". When she clicks it a drop down box will pop up. Have her go to account settings. Now on the left side there should be a list; General, security, etc. Have her click security. There are different options she can choose now to really lock down her fb. Clicking active sessions will show you recent log ins - Have her set up log in approvals and log in notifications. She will get notified anytime an unrecognized device tries to log in to her account along with their IP address. Also have her change her passwords asap.

Does she have AVast or another antivirus running on her machine? Security 6 code *can* mean license activation.

If she thinks she's been hacked, the first thing she should do is run a virus scan with an updated AV tool. No use changing passwords until she's sure she doesn't have a keylogger on her machine. Once it's clean and clear of viruses, change the passwords and make the Facebook privacy setting changes.

We are 1 month away from finding out if we've been hit...:starcat:

DNS Changer Check-Up - Clean (http://www.dns-ok.us/)

Says I'm green but like GWGuy says... the above check has a disclaimer that some server somewhere may be the reason you get a false 'green light' so you won't really know until July 9th...
