What are some good software programs to control what my kid sees online? Any good free ones or do I need to pay to get the good stuff? Thanks.

I used to use a free version of PC Tattletale. Pretty easy to use and gathered a lot of data. http://www.pctattletale.com/
It's more for keeping an eye on where they are going but if they know you have that ability, they pretty much police themselves. You can password protect it too so they can't tamper with it.
If you're looking for something more to put search controls on your browser, I can't really help you there.
Type this into your browser
You should come up with your router
For the name try Administrator
for the password try Admin
If you get in with these you will be prompted to change the logon information. If you dont, call your provider and get the information to access from them.
Once in you should be able to set time limits, block sites on certain computers based on content, word or URL.
Log in and play with it. If you screw up you can always reset the router to the original settings. (but the new password should stay the same.
if that addy does not work find your router manufacturer here and try these.
