So, we put Molly out last night around midnight and she was out all of about 3-4 minutes, just long enough to "do her business" and when she came in, something was wrong?? She is acting like she can't walk, tail stuck to her butt, refuses to go up any stairs, won't move at all, it's like she doesn't know how to walk? So, took her to the E.R. and she was fine, waggin her tail, acting all fine. Was discharged thinking she had some sort of minor seizure episode. That was around 3.a.m. and $200.00 ago.. NOW SHE'S WORSE... having to carry her up and down stairs unless you drag her by her collar(which i'm not). She won't move, literally won't take a step, shes like a statue. If you put her on the bed, she'll stay in the exact same spot not taking a step for hours? SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO DO??

That was my 1st thought- a bite of some kind. Ground bees or wasps, snake.

That was my initial thought too, but vet said they couldn't find anything, no bites, no marks of any kind? I just called MASH and they said to bring her right in...

Well Wishes to Molly! Let us know what the Vet finds. The signs & symptoms sound a little unusual, and I'm wondering if she has Lymes that just came on so sudden? Poor Baby, she's been through so much lately.

Poor girl, 2 hospitals and they don't seem to find anything wrong with her. She's currently hiding behind the couch and won't come out. She won't go up or down any stairs and I think she may have either injured her back or pulled a muscle. She's so sad.

OK..basic diagnostic stuff here.
"When you hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras"
What might the mechanism of injury be?
She went out fine came back in not fine.
No hit by car, no attack by another dog, no falling and suffering head trauma, no one hunting.
Just a quick pee, poop and sniffing stuff.

Perhaps she strained too hard, pulled a muscle, pinched a nerve...
Think of HOW your dog squats and strains to poop/pee.
Now think of you lower back after lifting a heavy box...."See" the area?
Is she up in years?
Do boxers have a genetic history of back/pelvic issues?

If after 2 vet visits, I would let her be, let her rest in a small area, add some mild doggie laxative to her food to help with pooping strain and take her out on a leash and observe!!!!
Pain meds. or anti-inflammitory, etc,, what ever the dog folks recommend and give her 24-48 hours and see how she is doing.
Doggie folks can tell you about the doggie sling, used to help move big dogs.

Good luck!!!

Bless her little Heart, the poor thing. The picture is so CUTE, but pittiful at the same time. I wonder if she's not having a reaction to the Lick Granuloma Medication. I know she's been on it for a while, but sometimes, it takes a few doses for a reaction to occur.

I'm now def. leaning towards spinal or back/neck injury. She's moving around the house, slowly, but with her head way down. Which to me says back/neck injury. She is eating which is great, but she's also growling at Remi, which is TOTALLY not okay or normal. Remi is her best best friend/brother. ?? I talked to Catt and she thinks the same, Molly has pulled or strained something and scared to move.

I would have thought the vet would figure it out if it was a back issue. Weird. Keep us posted and hope your baby gets back to normal ASAP.

Dang, sorry. Give it a bit of time maybe. If the docs didn't find anything. Hope she gets better soon. Give love. Is she up for treats?

Did the vet do a snap test for tick borne diseases? If so and that was negative, did they x-ray her neck and spine? If so and that was negative, they should have at least dispensed Rimadyl for inflammation and Robaxin as a muscle relaxant. The vet should have given her something for pain. If they did not dispense meds (or even if they did) you can try an ice pack (bag of frozen peas) on the neck area to help relieve pain. Hope she feels better soon!

Does she hurt when you touch her back or legs? I'm assuming they did this at the hospital, felt her up to see if she's in pain?

They gave us Rimadyl for pain. Very small dose. She is slowly beginning to walk around the house. She hears me open up the treat drawer(aka the lunch meat drawer in fridge) and perks up a bit, gave her some treats and she's eating them just great.

When you run your hands down her back and spine close to her back legs her muscles start to shake on her hind legs.

I'd get her x-rayed tomorrow. I know we talked about it but make absolutely sure she doesn't have Lyme or Ehrlichia. Ehrlichia can come on very suddenly and is very painful.

Please let me know how she's doing.

Let us know what they say. Poor Molly :frown:

It's just weird that it came on all of a sudden like that. My first thought was that she got into something poisonous or got bitten, but surely the vet would have caught that.

I honestly thought the same thing, she HAD to have gotten into a spider or snake or something. We are just going to give her snuggles tonight and take her to the regular vet tom. Thanks

this kind of happened with one of my dogs. she went outside, did her business and when she came in she went upstairs jumped in my bed and started SCREAMING! I could not figure out what was wrong. If I touched her she would scream louder. Turns out she blew her knee out. Had to give her a steroid shot and shes been ok :)

Exrays showed nothing. They are thinking she has pulled a muscle in her back or hind leg somehow and is afraid to really move because she doesn't understand. She's on pain meds now and is moving slow. But not hiding anymore. I let her out for a bit last night and she did move around. She woke up last night at like 3 a.m. barking and carrying on for no apparent reason though? I think she has pulled or strained a muscle either in her back or hind legs b/c thats what was shaking on sunday and if you put pressure towards that area she would turn around real quickly like WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

Poor baby..

Mine does that sometimes but with his back leg. He starts limping and lays down a lot. I give him some of his Rimaydl and a few days of rest. He is back to himself and feeling good. Most of his comes on from running around like he is 2 and not 8.
