I am looking for pet stores that carry grain free dog/cat foods in or near the Mechanicsville area. I looked up Peppers pet pantry but it says its 45 mins from me and i dont think i wanna drive that far for food. Dont like the selection at Southern States and rather support a small business over petsmart or petco if i can find one. Thanks.

Peppers has a Callaway location too... that really isn't far from Mechanicsville and is a straight shot down route 5.

The only place i buy my grainfree is peppers pet pantry the owner is a very nice person. She gave me samples to try with bruno to see what she would eat before i bought a big bag of food for her. I only support small business when it comes to getting stuff for the dog. I hate petco with a passion they are overpriced for most everything.
its worth the drive!!!!! :yay:......

it also takes me 30+min but i can only find what i am looking for there i love the store its never super busy in there when i go on saturday and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The staff even knows some stuff about the food they sell and what might work if they are sold out of what you normally get or have a recall like they had just recently and will tell you what is similar to what you were feeding unlike petco they have people who know not a thing about the food or about any recalls etc.

I stopped going to pet stores years ago, I now have all my dog delivered to my house, just got an order delivered today from PetCO, Blue Buffalo Wilderness, which is grain free, btw free shipping .

My dogs have been on it for years , never had a problem, their coats are silky/shiny , they love it , weight good, blood work great (get it every year for heartworm) , what do you base your statement on? Where did you get that info?

A friend of mine that has a self serve dog wash/retail store in Ft Washington is opening a 2nd store in Waldorf. She carries a lot of grain free and raw foods. Is that closer for you?

I have several concerns about ordering pet food online. Heat & humidity, how long has it not been in a temperature controlled environment, bugs, being outside on the doorstep in the rain, and product shipped close to expiration dates. Also the return policy...if you get a moldy bag or a bag with a tear or something wrong with it, how convenient is it to return and and how long will it take for them to replace it?
We have had customers that have bought online thinking they could save a few bucks only to return to us because of some of the above problems.

Never had a problem, mine comes UPS, right on my front porch, they're in boxes, the weather never a problem the UPS guys are awesome about putting it on the porch or under the carport, just like any other delivery, I don't see the difference between that and being on a truck all day to be delivered to a store, they give you a return slip if you want to return it, I just throw mine away, the bug issue I would think would be with the manufacture not delivery, IMO can't beat it, and you can use your time for something else

Remember, I'm also buying from PETCO not some person on line that I 'm not sure who they are or where they come from ... PETCO backs all it's purchases

question... would you purchase food if you knew it was sitting for days or weeks in a metal storage trailer? no ac... just heat and humidity?
just asking?

I don't know anything about that but if it's good enough for me it's good enough for my pooches...things like cereal, canned goods, etc are manufactured then stored in warehouses, then trucked to stores' warehouses then delivered to stores, and we eat it, also I don't know that it isn't stored in climate control situations because I don't know what agreements Blue Buffalo has with it's suppliers all I know , is I have never had a problem, started do this when a friend told me he was doing it, then learned that alot of people are doing it , it's a huge business on line but anyway bottom line is - it works for me
