In 2011 twenty-five boaters died in Maryland boating accidents. The Coast Guard Auxiliary District 5 South Public Affairs want to help the Coast Guard reduce accidents and deaths in Maryland.

As a member of a local Auxiliary flotilla, I am also a Social Media Adviser to our District Public Affairs team. A few of my roles are maintaining the flotilla website at DrumPoint.org (http://www.drumpoint.org), a Facebook site, (https://www.facebook.com/cgauxdrumpoint) and tweeting as @CGAUXDrumPoint (http://twitter.com/cgauxdrumpoint).

We want to engage Southern Maryland in discussions about boating safety especially situations unique to the Chesapeake Bay, the Patuxent, Potomac, and their tributaries.

Our objective in this forum is to promote boating safety, answer questions you might have about boating safely, and sharing resources that can help you stay safe on Maryland waters.

We are all invited guests of SOMD.COM who provides this forum space as a public service to help the Auxiliary with its boating safety mission. There are a few disclaimers and notes we want you to be aware of. These are similar to those in use at DrumPoint.org and the Official blog of the US.
