Get him a big empty cardboard boxYep... one year olds are easy to please...
I can't believe how many people drag their babies to Disney World and then spend all of their time trying to convince a tired baby that they are in a magical kingdom and are supposed to be enjoying themselves...

Plus, my kids always took naps. I was fanatical about them getting their naps so they were happier babies & I was a happier mom.
I think there is a tread around here somewhere that I took a lot of heat with my opinion of infant/toddler socialization. I think it was to a newbie who was quite sure her precious little angel was so advanced for his 9-11 months of age that he needed friends and to be play date scheduled across the board so he could be more happy.
Infants/toddlers are all pretty much the same developmentally. They just want to be with their parents - and be loved & have their needs met. It doesn't really matter where they go. They can't take large quantities of any type of activity, so day long festivals and other types of carnivals aren't worth the money if you want to experience them all day.
But if you want to just pop in for an hour or 2 between naps - then there are tons of things to do on weekends in the Tri-County area. Just check the calendar of events on the SOMD.com webpage. Good luck!
Wrong. But :lmao:

Okay, cardboard box it is... I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being a lazy parent b/c we weren't off going to a zoo or anything at this age. I have zero problems playing with a cardboard box or just blowing some bubbles outside. THANKS ALL !!

Is he walking yet? My yard sucks (yay townhouse) so on nice days I like to take him out to a park, usually something that has (unoccupied) soccer fields or something with lots of wide open space. He's totally happy to just run around, pausing to stare at grass, flowers, whatever. Maybe take a ball with us and he can chase that around.
I'm looking forward to warmer weather when we can start hitting up the splash park. He was thoroughly unimpressed with the cold water that comes out of the sprinklers at home LoL.
Swings. He loves swings. My parents built him a little swing set (with an infant seat) and he can stay in that thing for upwards of an hour at a time. Slides are also awesome, just don't go down holding him in your lap.

He's dangerously close to walking, but not yet. He's playing with the little train I got him he can sit and scoot on or push it, he prefers to push it crawling rather than walking so far. He'll get there. I just felt bad because we don't do much other than maybe go to the store and he terrorizes people at target by squealing at them or at the grocery store he throws stuff at people :killingme his pasifyer has become a weapon !!

Bubble wrap.....the stuff with the BIIIG bubbles. Since you will be with him the whole time, he won't put it in his mouth or choke on it, right?
Get a piece of the stuff and show him how to pop them.

I sat monster down in front of my tupperware cabinet, and let her have at it..I had like, 30 min of pure blissful peace. She would open the cabinet, take a peice out, close the cabinet, and then start all over again. :killingme
I can't WAIT to be able to take her places and enjoy things with her (hello zoo, aquarium, American girl store, tea at the place in ltown) but I am going to wait until she can enjoy it, and like Bann said..I am very sensitive to her schedule and long day trips have to be carefully planned with nap and food time. But I did get some sidewalk chalk and let her go to town out front of my house..she mostly carried it around, but she did try to draw a little :killingme we do the park sometimes too, she loves the swing and seeing all the other kids play. a trip to petco is kinda fun to if you are already over that way doing errands..monster loves watching the fish and animals. its like "zoo" light.

:yay: I have a picture of Thing1 sitting in front of my kitchen cabinet playing with pots and pans. He's sitting on one of the pots. Come to think of it, I should bring that to his graduation next month and show it off. Or at least post it on FB.
I think the pet stores are excellent places to visit! Just enough variety for a toddler to spend 5 seconds each at. Or longer if you want to actually pet some. Kids learn everywhere they go. A simple outing to the grocery store is an adventure anyway when you have an infant or toddler!

Pet stores would be very cool. My munchkin is fascinated by aquariums. I bet he'd get a huge kick out of the ferrets if they are in one of their frisky moods, too.
He also loves going swimming!

My little one loves the small inflatable pool filled with balls. She's like a little Rambo crawling over to attack the pool and climb in all by herself. She also has fun just sitting in the balls and throwing them to see mommy try to catch them and put them back in.

Sell him now, before he grows up and really starts to cost you money

At not quite one, their attention spand is small. Most of the suggestions were good. tupperware, pots, pans, wide open spaces to run safely, swings, bubbles and definately card board boxes! My kids all loved boxes. They loved to sit in them and let me push them around the house. Better than spending money going to an amusement park, and when they get tired, you put them down for their nap. :yay:
You have many years to experience the world. Let him be a one year old and experience the little things in life, so he will grow to love the big things in life.

My little man recently turned 3. He's always loved tents and tunnels. Whenever we couldn't find something, we looked in his tent.
I used to take him to Hallowing Point Park a lot to push him on the swings and let him run around all those fields when there were no games going on. Try taking him to the boardwalks in Solomons or North Beach. When my son was younger and would sit in a stroller, he enjoyed people watching and I got my exercise. Win-win.

The pet store was a good suggestion. I used to sit my little ones in the stroller and roll it outside or to a window. Even the library is great. Too bad they don't have storytime on the weekend
