Pa. Library Calls Cops On 4-Year-Old Girl (http://www.myfoxphilly.com/dpp/news/offbeat/Library_Calls_Cops_On_4-Year-Old_Girl_051512)

Overdue library books are apparently a big deal in western Pennsylvania.

A library in a Pittsburgh suburb went after a 4-year-old girl whose books were due back in October.

She owed the library about $81 in fines. When she didn't pay up, the library called the cops on her, asking police to make a courtesy call to the child's home.

"We're here to serve the community, and we try to do it as best we can, and all we really want is to have our library materials returned to us," the librarian said.

First it's overdue library books, next it's armed robbery.

This is how Dillinger got started.

Who issues library books in the name of a 4 year old and not the parent?

The time to start building credit is when they're young.

Seems like my kids went to the library for a field trip when they were little and they all got cards. At least the older two.

As soon as they can write their name they can get a card.

Yeah, but parents are responsible for their underage children... the article is misleading in saying the cops came after the 4 year old when common sense tells you the parents are the one's who will be footing the bill.

So you don't think they'll throw her in a tent city chain gang?

What kind of lesson does that teach these young scofflaws?

Oh you know the first thing the little brat did when she realized it was te po-po was to run and hide her piggy bank. Kids these days are just not willing to step up.

The library may not have realized she was 4 when they sent out the police (which I think is stupid anyways). When the kids got their library cards, all we had to fill out was their name and address and they got a card. No parent names were on the account.

I don't know if this is the same case as was reported on a few months ago or a new one, but I do know that the one that was reported a few months ago gave alot more details and the library didn' t just call the police on a whim or as the first step towards collections, it was after several attempts to work with the parents to get it settled. The parents chose to ignore it and that, my friend, is thievery.

Good. I am so tired of 4-year old walking around without a care in the world. Grow up already. Geesh.
