informative article (for UNA, et al)
Was Yeshua (Jesus) the legitimate Messiah ?
The legitimate Messiah needed to be a descendant of King David and he needed to be appointed by God. The following Rabbinic account attempts to dispel Yeshua’s right to David’s throne and, therefore, the legitimacy of His Messiahship. In contrast, the Messianic interpretation, given by Dr. Fruchtenbaum, is a fascinating study proving that Yeshua truly is the rightful heir of David’s throne.

I'm down with all of the Biblical genealogies as presented numerous times throughout, with all the begats and begottens in various books, starting in Genesis 5.
It all adds up to Jesus.
The rest is up to each individual.

Do you think that these things are what Paul had in mind when he wrote the following to Timothy in his first letter?
As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, 4 nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith. 5 The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 6 Certain persons, by swerving from these, have wandered away into vain discussion, 7 desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make confident assertions.
Curious as to your thoughts on this one.

No doubt that the Jewish people got all wrapped up in tracing their genealogy (as many, even Gentiles, still do today) in order to prove and boast family descendancy from certain tribes, links to royalty, etc.
Those things became unimportant after the Advent of Jesus in that both Jew and Gentile become one family through faith in Christ, inheriting the rights to be called Children of God and inheriting the promise of partaking in God's Kingdom.
I do not believe that Paul, in the context of the verse you cited, was referencing the specific account of Christ's lineage as recorded in Matthew and Luke as those were the key factors for proving Jesus' flow from the line of David, thus, qualifying Him to the status required of the Jewish Messiah. In the case of Matthew and Luke's genealogy of Jesus, it was important for the Jews of His time to know that Jesus was indeed qualified by His roots that enabled Him to ascend to the Throne of David, as prophesied.
