As the weather gets warmer, boat owners are getting ready for another season. New boat owners may discover that being born after July 1, 1972 requires them to obtain a Boating Safety Certification Card. Teenagers who are looking forward to getting out on the jet ski are also required to have a Boating Safety Certification Card.
On May 22, the Patuxent River Sail and Power Squadron is starting a new section of America’s Boating Course that can lead to acquisition of the required card, as well to a better understanding of boating safety. There is a $35 fee for the course, which includes additional charting and digital navigation beyond the basic required course and a six month trial membership in the United States Power Squadron. This section will meet at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church, 9463 H. G Trueman Road, Lusby, MD. For additional information call 301-475-3883.
Boating safety education cannot always prevent an accident, but it can frequently prevent an accident from becoming a disaster.
