My Radio Shack hand held scanner lasted for about a year and now in the market for a replacment. Looking at desk top's for under 250 and soliciting opinions of members who follow EMS and Fire dispaches.
Good luck finding anything under $250. St. Mary's is getting ready to switch to a digital system (set to go on line later this year or next year), and with that, if you're buying a new scanner, do not get analog. Those are the cheaper of the two.
With that said, aim for something Radioshack makes. Anything. They do fairly well. Good luck!

Not sure I'll go with Radio Shack as the hand held bought only lasted a year. The sales guy basically said you O.O.L when I brought it in. With that, I'll take heed regarding digital and when is Calvert Co going to convert?

It'll only be a matter of time, I'm sure. The analog is the old way of doing it and is really losing steam, whereas digital is fairly available everywhere and is really picking up nationwide.

I have had good luck with a Bearcat / Uniden BCT-15X. It can be set up as a desktop or is readily installed into a DIN mount in a car or truck.

I've heard of the Bearcat brand but know little about them. I'll look into the model. Thanks a bunch
