...says you are free to choice abortion. Free to take drugs. Free to denounce right wingers. Free to protest. Free to do all sorts of things.
It also says you are not free to protect and defend yourself. You can only protest right leaning things. Your money, how much you have, is up for government approval. And...
...you can only have 16 ounces of soda at a time.

Ridiculous isn't it? All the #### going on in "the city so nice they named it twice"; and they pick THIS to worry about?

It's pretty much this:
SINCE you have surrendered your life to us to care for it, we maintain the right to tell you how you can live it.
Thank you for your cooperation.

so the corollary of this is that the conservative mind says we'll lock you up for having an abortion, for taking drugs, for speaking out or just about anything else.
I'm thinking some compromises should be made from both sides, we can start with the big gulp.

See, that's the thing. Compromise how? Compromise in deference to the Constitution which is suppose to protect us all from one another or compromise in respect to the various and sundry desires to violate the constitution?

???
I guess part of this is - perspective.
I imagine a conservative would say we'll lock you up for taking an innocent life or selling a dangerous substance or otherwise endangering the lives of others. That's a discussion all by itself. I have no objection whatsoever to anyone taking a drug provided all they do is kill themselves with it - it's just that in reality, they usually end up killing someone else, too.
It's the speaking up part, however, that puzzled me. Conservatives are famous for live and let live as far as free speech is concerned. True, you sing a song or make a movie that offends me, and I'll take my business elsewhere. That's freedom. But what I won't do is insist on an apology, have you fired or seek redress so you won't say what you want. I won't organize a campaign to have advertisers abandon you, because you said something insulting. I *will* point it out if you engage in a double standard where you insist that *I* can't say something, but you can.
As I like to say - MY voice is as free as yours is. If you intend to protest a funeral, that's your right. Be advised it's my right to stand up to you as well. I also have freedom. You say I'm a racist? I say you're a fascist. That's what freedom is. What conservatives DON'T do is make efforts to shut the other side down. In a free society everyone says what they think and trusts that people know bull#### when they see it.
(I'm guessing it goes without saying, but "you" is generic and not directed at "you" personally).

It was a joke that fell flat, I was just listing the opposites of what you posted to get to the compromising on big gulps.

See, in my mind, there is such a mixed bag of D and R on the things you listed. Libs want to control speech probably more than the right does and we know how they feel about Happy Meals.
