"Mitt Romney's birth certificate was released Tuesday night, and after so many years of scrutinizing the birth certificate of Barack Obama, we couldn't help wondering what birthers think about the Republican nominee's eligibility to be president.

The document Romney released to Reuters is a "certificate of live birth" -- the same type of document released in 2008 by President Obama and deemed not good enough by birthers.

The Atlantic Wire asked for a comment from Jerome Corsi, the most prominent birther and author of Where's the Birth Certificate? Corsi said he'd get back to us, and directed us to a January story he wrote about Romney's citizenship.

More on that below, but it's clear that, if you're prone to think this way, Romney's birth document has many of the same problems as the orignal document President Obama's team released in its first attempts to keep the birthers at bay. Again, it's merely a "certificate of live birth."

The document was issued by the State of Michigan on January 18, 2012. It shows a father born in another country -- Mexico this time, instead of Kenya. As The Guardian points out, the certificate was filed March 17, 1947, five whole days after Romney was born: "How can Mitt Romney explain this mysterious five day gap during which time he may (or may not) have been smuggled in from Canada? – the foreign country bordering on Michigan."

But that's just speculation by a left-wing foreign rag. Here's what real birthers say:

Sorry Nonothing, you are confused. This issue is about Mitt's father run for President, not Mitt. Another non-issue. I recommend that you say focused on Mitt's barber shop training.

Doesn't "released" imply making something freely available for examination?

When did Obama do thT?

So, Mitt was able to come up with a certificate in just a few days, while it took obama a few years to do the same?

Obama originally released a Certification of Live Birth, not a Certificate of Live Birth.

The Certification of Live Birth was questioned because there are many variables that one can obtain such a document and the main question in Obama's case is that in 1961 Hawaii, it could have been possible for someone not born in Hawaii to get such a document.

The Certificate of Live Birth questions that some people have is that the document could be fake.

I'll ask the non-Birthers: Do you care if Romney's BC [presented to Reuters] is legit and if so, is it only because so many questioned Obama's or are you generally concerned that a ineligible person might be elected? If it's the former then you really don't care as long as you can make a tit-for-tat argument, much like blaming Bush for all the ails of this presidency. If it's the latter, then why are you starting now?
