:coffee: Anybody else here getting phone calls from a company called 1BOG or One Block Off The Grid? The are pushing solar panel sales.

I have been sitting here for over 2 hours and the caller said he called a little over an hour ago and spoke to my wife (he called me by my first name) said she told him that he should call me back. The phone certainly hasn't rung since I have been sitting here and she said she hasn't had any other calls all afternoon. I let him know that. Then he says he has a note that she had answered a call and I could hear him shuffling papers around like he was looking for it.

"Oh well, you must have made some inquiry in the past or we wouldn't be calling you back. What exactly is your interest in solar power?"

I told him "none," and he kept trying to bait me on into a conversation and I just kept giving him one word answers. He kept assuring me that they were only calling be back based on my interest. I told him I hadn't contacted anyone at any time expressing any interest in solar. He finally apologized for taking my time and off he went.

They look legit on a Google search, but they sure seem to pick shady ways of doing business. Why would you try and bait someone on so obviously and all but call them homeowner a liar when they didn't agree with your version of a created story?

Just wondering if anyone else had received calls or had any dealings with them.

Because if he gets you to 'admit' that you inquired, his call is now covered under the 'established business relationship' exemption of the do not call legislation (fed and state).
If you dont give him that 'out', he has to worry about receiving one of those demand letters from the maryland attorneys who specialize on suing companies that make sales-calls or send junk faxes.

Well I never gave him a positive response to anything and made it clear that I had not made any sort of inquiry with his or any other solar services company. Maybe I need to call that Maryland attorney guy and sic him on them.

From a well-meaning friend or neighbor who is hoping to collect a $50 referral fee for suggesting him as someone who may be interested in a solar installation.
The drone on the phone is part of a structured sales organization whose job is to feed leads to the higher ups who will send someone out to draft an estimate. For everyone he signs up, he gets X dollars, so he may bend the rules a bit when it comes to cold-calling homeowners.

I haven't heard from this particular company, but we seem to get a call or so a week from various companies asking for a random person, and when we say they have the wrong number, they say something along the lines of "As long as you are the homeowner..." and launch into their pitch. We are on the Do Not Call list, so I am thinking this is their sneaky little way around it - they pretend they are calling for someone else, and then when they get any live person on the line, just try to bulldoze through their presentation.

I have gotten that too. It's usually, "Well maybe you could help me." I always tell them since I am not the person they asked for I don't see any possible way I could be of help and immediately hang up the phone.

I have also come to believe that the Do Not Call list is one of the biggest jokes in the world.

They can try to bulldoze all they want....I have the hang up option at my end of the line and I use it often and with brute force.
