We don't get a lot of tornado warnings where I live but I do remember one where my husband, my infant son, and I sat on the couch, just waiting to make a break for the basement if we heard one coming. I remember my son just looking at us like we were nuts for waking him up to just sit around and do nothing.

Unless you have had it, you have the scars and all the after effects, don't tell me what to do or how to do it.
I have more tee-shirts from Relay for Life and stickers, etc than I care to admit.
I have walk more than you know or I care to tell.
I get all the support I need in real life from real survivors and people who support the cause.
I did not expect the exact opposite here.

I finally get the courage to put up a teal ribbon here as I thought it was safe to do so, but as you can see, it is not, I get attacked, and the rest of you join in.

I did not demand to know where you got the image - I asked - and I did that because for the past few days I have been reading threads in which you harassed and belittled others about the origin of their avatars, and made sweeping generalizations about stolen images and copyrighted materials.

No one is giving you a hard time about your teal ribbon nor are they taking away from the meaning behind it, it's the origin of general avatar image that's being questioned. It wouldn't matter what you actually had as an avatar or what color ribbon you posted. And that's only being done because of how you have treated others on the forum.

Goodness gracious! Spend the morning and early afternoon doing yoga & some gardening and come back to find this whole mess!

Dearest Katelin, I fear that you have sadly misinterpreted my posting. When I read your post I was struck by the depth of pain and felt that I had to say something to try to make you feel a bit better. Obviously, my attempt went sadly awry and for that, I apologize.

It took me a few minutes to decide what I wanted to say, correct my typos, etc., but not more than 5 minutes or so. What you have noticed about my quoting a deleted post is what I laughingly refer to as the "Lance effect". If a poster clicks "reply with quote" as soon as they are finished reading it, and then makes a response, the original post is still in the response, even if the original has been deleted. (One of the reasons we are always cautioned to never put anything out on the Internet that we wouldn't want our Grandmother to see on the front page of a newspaper.)

I mentioned the Relay for Life because I got involved in it shortly after my Father passed away from lung cancer. I was with him when he breathed his last breath and it was devastating for me. I needed to find a way of making certain that no one ever had to go through that with a loved one. The Relay for Life efforts put on by the local communities for the benefit of Cancer Research is a way of helping to make a positive impact on a very negative disease. I have seen many survivors, caregivers, and relatives/friends of those lost participate in a Relay for Life event and come away feeling comforted and supported. That is why I mentioned it, in hopes that it might help you to feel a bit comforted/supported.

I, in no way, meant to cause you pain. I believe that what we send out comes back to us three-fold so I try hard to be nice or at least polite. There is a wonderful prayer that speaks to this... (by St. Francis)

I did feel comfortable disclosing my survivor status and did so by using a royalty free ribbon to show it. Keeping it simple, one day at a time.

Then Baja ruined it and you all jumped on the band wagon with him and the attack began and I tried to defend myself and my use of a avatar.
It failed and for every post I made trying to defend and explain, I got attacked more.

I know there are survivors here...but I can not recall anyone being beat up because they posted an avatar related to their type of cancer.

I paid for it: Physically, and literally, and I have a whole packet of info with teal ribbons on it. I have a nice collection of ribbons, plastic, fabric pin on ribbons, buttons that say "Cancer Su.ck", hats, tee-shirts, logos..etc. Easier to use a royalty free symbol than to scan and upload one from my files.
The avatar I used is NOT a violation of digital copyright law.
