an amendment to the Constitution that:
(1) Prohibits withholding with regard to all federal income taxes;
(2) Requires that all federal income taxes be paid on particular dates, with no more than 2 dates per year being designated for such payment (i.e. so that they could be collected, at most, semi-annually); and
(3) This one is the kicker: Requires that any elections for federal offices be held on one of the days designated for payment of federal income taxes. You have to vote on the same day you would be paying taxes.
Now that I think about it, I could see where this might backfire. But it isn't going to get adopted anyway, so...

So what do you mean pay taxes? Is that based on gross or adjusted? What about those 18 year old that do not have a job? What about those 40 year college students that have no income?
I think you are trying discriminate and prevent people from voting. You are a very bad person......

I'm not suggesting any other rules about income taxes, and the point would not be to prevent anyone from voting. It would be to have them voting at a time when paying taxes was at the forefront of their minds.

How many voters actually pay taxes? Maybe if more people paid, then more people would think differently about voting. Lets eliminate income tax and create a national sales tax.

The great majority of those that work pay taxes, but that's not the point here - my proposal wouldn't be that you have to pay taxes in order to be able to vote, just that those things would have to be done on the same days.
To your last comment, let's eliminate income and sales tax - both of which are taxes on economic activity and are thus stiflers of the same, not to mention open to all kinds of behavior-seeking manipulation on the part of government and cheating on the part of individuals - and create a societal membership tax. Don't tax transactions between members of society (which only seems to make sense because we've been doing it so long, outside that context it seems like an odd way to provide for the collective bill), tax presence in society. Here's the collective bill, here are the people participating, divide accordingly.

Would voting occur before or after one writes their check? Or do we get the choice? Perhaps voting should take place the day after the check is written.

I see where you are going and your intent but no one would ever pay taxes. Because you can't put EVERYBODY in jail we would just go broke.
Look at the system we have now and people are still able to blow off taxes for years racking up large back tax bills they just ignore. If you take away withholding everyone would just blow off paying their taxes.

I've a friend who works for GSA, the agency that goes after those who owe Federal income taxes but haven't paid them. He says the latest scam is for the scofflaw to file a tax return in which they are owed a large refund. Since the government must cut them a check for the refund right away, the check gets there and is cashed before the feds even know there is income tax owed. You can go years without paying income taxes for the current year and never get caught. In the meantime, they pull the same stunt every year, the government never gets the refund money back and seldom get the taxes owed either.

Why should the government of the people, by the people, for the people get the people's money before anything else the people might like to spend it on? Food? Clothing? Shelter? Dope? Beer?
I mean, think about it. Certainly, states could suspend your drivers license if you get too far behind. The Feds could use any number of inducements. Your passport, lien on your property, withhold benefits from unemployment to SS/Med. Attach your wages. Disallow you to vote or hold office. I can see withholding gummint wages if you work for the gummint.
I mean, it could all mean the same in the end; they get paid but, what I don't understand is the reflexive support of the state that is SUPPOSED to work FOR you. In my view, withholding is one of the core sins of government. You don't even write the check. It's just gone and like anything out of sight and out of mind, it tends to get in disrepair and you gotta agree the government is in disrepair.

Two things:
Many who vote pay no taxes at all.
I think it would be a good idea to limit voting to those that do actually pay, not get everything refunded, taxes.

Sounds good. How about this .... you don't have to pay your mortgage until you've lived in the house a whole year. That way, you realize how much of your money is being spent on it.
What do you think is most likely to happen?
