Does anybody know if there are plans to start the Leonardtown VFD carnival again? We used to take the grandkids because it was convenient from our house. We take them to Hollywood now but it gets so crowded, I suspect from the Leonardtown folks who no longer have their own carnival. I have taken them to the one in Mechanicsville but would really love to see the one in Leonardtown done again.

Carnivals are usually not very well maintained, maybe take them to a theme park. Kings Dominion or Six Flags are not too far away and both offer better quality rides and food than the carnivals usually do.

Kings Dominion and Six Flags are a long way to go for a funnel cake. Yum!

Thanks for the advice, but I like the idea of supporting the local VFD. Not too mention you have to take out a 2nd mortgage to take a family of 5 to one of those places and my youngest granddaughter is to timid to get on alot those rides, so its really not worth the money we would have to pay.

Very true, if the kids don't like the big rides, then it's hardly worth the trip, especially for a family of 5! Hope you all have a great time at wherever you decide to go! :buddies:
Ridge VFD's carnival is set to open the first Thursday (the 2nd) in August. It runs until the 5th. It opens again on the 9th and runs until the 12th

Thanks, I'm sure we'll do the Hollywood or Mechanicsville as usual. Enjoy your summer.:howdy:

Hmmm...I've never been to the one in Ridge only because we live in Leonardtown. I may try it this year for a change of scenery. Thanks for info.

It's very hometown-y. Little bit of a drive from Leonardtown, but everyone has always said we're the last carnival because "we do it right." Cannot beat the funnel cakes, burgers and fries.

Hell, I make that drive from the 7th. Back in the old days Emrick Stone would kick my cousin and I off the ferris wheel for trying to flip the seat over. OBTW, it's about a 45 mile trip, piece of cake.

Back when the Ferris Wheel was permanent and not on a trailer. Heard a lot of stories about the old clutch and brake in it. Had to seat everyone just right or it wouldn't stop :killingme
