The "List" function which shows all your DVR recordings, just told me that I have access to watch all the listings on my other DVR's from a different TV.
But how do you access the other DVR's through the one that I am watching?
Didn't tell me how to do it.
Anybody?

Love me some Contra!
I got that message the other day and it started to prompt me through the steps but I exited because I didn't feel like fooling with it. So now, I don't know how either.

You have to contact Dtv to activate it on your account "if" it's available to you. I got the same message, but it's not available to me to activate online and I haven't felt like calling CS.

While the "List" function may show it's "available", it's not available until you pay them for it.
Try it, I think you get the message, "Feature not purchased" or something like that.
I saw a related menu option under Menu / Setup

It's called "whole home DVR". DTV charges $20 per month, but the benefit is you have access to anything on your HD DVR from any other HD receiver in the house.
Of course this comes with the requirement that all the receivers and the DVR have internet connections.

It may not be a 20$ upgrade though. I think this is a new bundled billing item. I got this service 2 years ago, and it boils down like this on my bill:
05/11 06/10 Advanced Receiver-HD Monthly 10.00
05/11 06/10 Advanced Receiver-DVR Monthly 8.00
05/11 06/10 DIRECTV Whole-Home DVR Service Monthly 3.00
Which adds up to 21$, so maybe I'm over paying 1$ ?
If you have any of these other services on your bill already, you can probably subtract that cost form the 20$ to see how much more a month it would be.

Looks like the 20$ is the bundled price, but it's only for new accounts. Also since you didnt initially get the service at install time, there maybe a one time service fee.
I have the service and like it, but be aware they dont allow you to remotely manage recording settings. Just play and delete remotely.

anyone figure out the answers to this yet? I got the message on my TV also, but I haven't tried to 'activate" it from other tvs yet. Also, my tvs are not hooked up to the internet. Is this a requirement? Don't understand why it would be, I have a DVR in the LR that I use to record and play back shows.

I think it has all been figured out now, what else do you have questions about other than the internet one? And to answer, no you don't need to be hooked up to the internet for whole home DVR.
It really depends on the equipment you have. The newer boxes all have DECA built in. This is directv's way of networking over the cable lines (similar to MOCA). If your boxes dont have this, you will definately need a service tech. Thanks for the info. I went to the site to see if my DVR is whole home compatible. It is :yahoo: but it says my standard receivers in the bedrooms are not :cds:
I really want this feature, but it's really pissing me off. :tantrum:
