I've been relentlessly searching for puppies, I have searched through all the animal shelters and pet finders, but the puppies they have are either too expensive to adopt, or they're too far away. I'm hoping to get in touch with someone who has an upcoming litter or a new litter of puppies (under 14 weeks) for free, or at least under 100 dollars. I'd prefer pit bull pups, but any breed will be taken into consideration. Or if you have any info on where I could go to look, it would be appreciated. Thank you :)

If you consider the Cost of Spaying, Neutering, and the Immunizations, you might think again about getting one from the Shelter. All of them have been, or will be Vetted. When you get a Pup from someone that is just "Giving them away", you risk getting one that isn't in good Health, or one that has not been fixed. All Dogs, and Cats from the Shelter I think are also Micro-Chipped. The Dogs & Cats at the Shelter are on borrowed time too. Please Adopt. If you decide to go the other route, please Spay, Neuter, and Micro-Chip, and get a good Collar, and Name Tag. Good luck to you, and the new Pup. If you get a Pit, make sure they are allowed in your Community!

Roman I don't see all of that happening in this case. I hope I'm wrong.

Have you actually went to the local shelter? They didn't have any puppies for you or were they too expensive?

one of the guys that came into the store complained about spending 2800 on a dog and said he refuses to get it spayed. i said your making a big mistake he said he doesn't care cause the dog doesn't go out without him and never tried to run away so far. He will learn when she goes into her first heat and she tries taking off etc. Some people are just too stupid to be pet owners in my books. not saying sunladia is but sounds like she just wants a cheap dog (no such thing unless u want one with major health issues etc like roman and the others have said).

Operation Paws for Homes does a good job of placing rescued animals. Probably more than Sunlandia is wanting to spend, but they'll adopt out a spayed/neutered dog with up to date shots once you pass their quick application process. Price for a young dog is about $275. Which probably isn't too much more than you'd pay for spay/shots/vet visit with a "cheap" dog - and you have a good idea what you're getting.

I'm fully willing and able to pay for fixing the animal and getting it it's shots.... the problem is coming up with that much money ALL at once. If I get an animal with none of that, I can pay 70 dollars one week, 30 dollars the next week, etc etc.... I hope you guys can relate. And I haven't found anything on any of the animal shelters websites about puppies under 14 weeks being available anywhere. Do I have to go to the shelter to find that out?

:eyebrow:

so what will you do when/if your puppy or dog gets sick? THIS IS what you should think about.... it’s a commitment to a pet.... unlike kids that you have insurance on and will only pay a deductible.... when you pet gets sick you have to pay it all up front

a pet is a luxury.. not a necessity... IF YOU CANT AFFORD A VET ... DONT GET A PET

Sorry to have to put it to you like this...but i see this all the time at the vet...someone gets a pet.... it gets sick... they dont have money to treat the animal.... and now we are the bad guys...

OH ... and no i cant relate... I take full responsibility of having 4 large dogs... one of which a year ago started with a back injury.... I have done a CT scan (almost 2 grand), MANY xrays (OVER A grand), and Physical Therapy...

did i expect this to happen to him.....no.... is it my responsibility to take care of him...YES.... I got him...he didn’t ask to be with me...

This is so true - adopted my lab mix from a rescue in December. He was about 14 weeks and the rescue had already neutered and chipped him. Still, his puppy visits alone were almost $500 to get him all his vaccinations, etc. The vet offered a puppy package at a discounted rate, but it still was two payments of a few hundred dollars. He hasn't had any major health issues, but we had a call to an emergency vet. Plus all the costs add up very quickly - adoption fee, flea/tick every month, heartworm med every month, food, crate, baby gates, toys, treats, obedience classes, three collars and leashes thus far (he grew FAST!). While I do understand that it can be hard to get together the money for the upfront cost, as others have pointed out - if you can't do that, then you probably can't afford all the other things he/she will need. For the next ten years or so.

you are totally right there is no such thing as a cheap dog. i have paid a good amount of money for my dogs health issues and nothing is cheap. she will also have to be on a special diet for the rest of her life due to one of her health issues too which isn't cheap.

If to get a puppy will cost about $300, and one doesn't have $300 now to pay, why not save up the $300 then get the dog. Makes sense to get a dog that has received the value of say $600 in vet work, and you only pay $300, instead of paying out way more once a week in smaller amounts for the same vet services, unless the person had no intentions of getting the puppy spayed/neutered or puppy shots?

how will that person afford to do heartworm meds, flea and tick meds, DOG FOOD!!! .......

this is just the start of the list....

to hell with saving for a pet.... the pet takes money to have each month.. not just for the start up.

Some people think that paying $15 for a 50 lb bag of "dog food" that will last them a few weeks is feeding it well. Some people don't bother with the "extras" (as they see it) like Heart-worm preventative or flea/tick meds. Look at how many dogs live on crap food and end up at the shelter full of heart worms and/or have Lyme or some other flea/tick illness.

I think there is room for improvement in my own life with having money on hand to handle illness/injury for my critters. So I am not prefect by far, but I know if I had to, I can come up with money to get my pets proper urgent vet care.

I know people who will shop only in thrift stores for clothes to have extra money to pay for the meds their pets need monthly.

Here is a classic example of the cost of a Pet, and Emergency Care. My Dog Molly (R.I.P.), was in great health one minute, and Dead the next. LITTERALLY. She came in from her daily Jog on the Beach, and made a throat clearing sound. I saw blood. Scooped her up, and rushed her to the Vet. Here is exactly what they did for her. Wrote me a Prescription for Carafate, to stop the bleeding. They didn't have any on hand. They took an X-Ray which showed she had Cancer from her Throat, to her Anus. Keep in mind, her appetite was GREAT, and she showed NO outward signs of anything being wrong with her until then. I looked at the X-Ray, and made the decision to euthanize her. The next day, my Husband went in to settle up the Bill, because I was so upset, that I just walked out of there. The Bill for that little bit of stuff, came up to $629.42, and I didn't have a Dog to show for it. Animals cost some serious money, but to me, it's money well spent, if you have a Healthy Dog, and Happy Dog. I have a lot of Pets, and most of my Pay Check is spent on getting the best of everything that I can. That is no exaggeration either.

:yay:.. see it all the time and I do understand.. my GSD had cancer that had spread to his lungs...no signs till "the day" i had to make the final choice.

(side note... carafate does stop bleeding... it just coats the GI track and is used for many reasons to do so. ... and hard to think they would be out of it... seeing that it comes in tablet form (1gram tabs) and liquid form)

Although mine, I had to rescue. Like pay for her to fly to me, with a crate, then get caught up on all her shots.

It is expensive like no other (I have no kids so I am sure that is more)

But I am trying to convince her to get her lazy ass a job. Or start collecting welfare checks.

You are not a bad Dog Mom for not brushing her Teeth! I tried with my new Pup, but it didn't work. I give her raw Beef Bones, and other Chewies, and that does the trick. Molly was almost 11 when she had her last Well Pet Check, and they said her teeth looked great. She got the same as my new one does. I found that surprizing, because my Vet PUSHES the Dental Health issuse BIG time. In responce to Kwillia's post

Mine is such a picky eater it isn't funny.

Won't touch peas, carrots only to crack them open to see if there is something else. No seafood, spits that back out like a champ. Might eat corn, has a hard time understanding how we eat it off the cob. I crack up when we eat that way, she just watches and turns that head over to the side.

Im glad that you want to give an animal a home, but if you are not able to afford the costs up front, you should wait uintil you are financially stable before you get an animal. We really are not being mean at all. It would be a shame for someone to get a new pet, then the pet doesn't get all the vet care it should have due to tight budget constraints.

Some things like flea/tick/heart-worm preventative, de-worming, and vaccinations are not extra's, they are essential to minimal care. They cost more than people realize.
