I have bats roosting in the louvers of my attic eaves and would like them professionally removed and a barrier installed. Does anyone have any recommendations of companies to call? I am in the La Plata area. Thanks!

There are some laws where you CAN NOT bother them bats AT ALL. I used to live in Baltimore county and had them in the attic the only thing that we could do about it was when they left the roost for the night was fix it so they couldn't get back in. BUT you had to be sure you didn't have any in the attic that couldn't get out including the babies.
You were not allowed to catch them or touch them in any matter!
Good luck! and talk with the DNR.

Had a co-worker who used Adcocks Trapping service for the same problem. They captured and relocated the bats and then sealed up the openings. Hasn't had any problems since then.

If possible, see about making or buying a bat box and seeing if they could be enticed into it. Bats are very beneficial, eating silly amounts of bugs.

Yes they are, but they can make a nasty nest.
Bat house is a good thing, out in the woods.

Never knew this.
DO NOT hang bat house in tree or shady area. Make sure it receives 6 to 8 hours of sunlight each day.

Just to add too what I was talking about Bats and Diseases - Discover Maryland's Bats - Wildlife and Heritage Service - Maryland Department of Natural Resources (http://www.dnr.state.md.us/wildlife/Plants_Wildlife/bats/batsinhome.asp)
There are a lot of IF's, And's and but's about what you can do unless there are in the living quarters of your house.

I put up a bat house that I bought from a company in PA last year. Followed the directions for assembly very carefully. Placed in a place that gets a fair amount of sun shine (the most I could get it to without assembling a new post in the ground). It gets early morning to mid day sun but here we are a year later and NOT ONE BAT! I am so frustrated!
Should I move it?

Be patient, from my reading, it might take another year or more before bats discover it and move in.
