I don't get it. Women with glitter, decals and other loud embellishments on their nails look so trashy. If you're a young girl, sure. Even a teenager or possibly very young adult. But women over the age of, say, 21 shouldn't decorate their claws in such a juvenile fashion.
I don't even like an extreme French manicure (especially with those icky fake tips) - looks like porn star nails. The latest trend is those fake polish sticker things that look like tiger stripes or checkerboards. Tacky tacky tacky.

I've always wondered how women with those long banana peel (think edward scissorhands)like nails wipe their butts?

I made the mistake of wearing polish that had small sparkles in it, and I swear it took half a bottle of polish remover, about an hour, and a small scraping tool to get that crap off my nails, never again.

Lightly sparkled nail polish is one thing - that can be tasteful and cute - blinged out crusty glitter is something else. Like some rap guy's teeth or something.

I knew a guy years ago that complained to me about his wife in her 50's wearing the same clothes as the middle and high school teenagers. For a while there, she was wearing skirts up to her butt.
She thought she was still a hot young thing, and although he said he wasn't opposed to his wife looking hot in sexy clothes, he said she looked ridiculous dressing like the teenagers.

Unlke many with the really long ghetto nails, I work for a living. I can't type very well with long nails. I can't clean my house, or cook or cut the grass and do yard work, change a flat tire, fix the plumbing, etc with 3 inch ghetto nails. That, and because I work for a living, I can't afford to go every week and get my ghetto nails painted. Or get my hair did.
SO, I don't have ghetto nails, and I don't like ghetto nails. They are gross!
now I do get my nails done.. but they have to be VERY short because I cant type if they are long.
Im talking short as right at the tip of your finger short...LOL
but my nails are so soft and have never grown well.... I will cut back where I can to get them done.

I know that I'm making an assumption here, or maybe my statement will be considered Profiling, but here goes. The one's with the biggest BLING on the nails are probably the ones that have no job, or might be on some kind of Assistance. When you look under the 3 inch claws, it is dirty looking in most cases. In my opinion, they are very unsanitizing too. I had fake nails for years, and finally got them taken off last year. I wore them short, and didn't have any Bling, but that's because I'm old.

I can usually keep up to 1" beyond the finger tip if I am careful, but then there are times they all end up short like they are today (too many critter projects lately). I, too, will sacrifice to get my hands/feet done periodically. Good looking hands/feet are important. Nothing worse than people with ugly feet wearing sandals. Oops did I say that? Smack me  .

speaking of nail jobs ....
I let them try that special gel polish (used with the light) on me they say lasts about 2 weeks? Mine lasted on my fingernails 3 weeks - yeah! (toes always last long than finger nails). I couldn't believe it. Costs more too though, but at least my fingernails and my toenails matched for 3 straight weeks and I didn't have to do anything ..... of course that may be too long of a commitment to a single color for some .....
I'm scared to get that again, what's in the stuff? Rocket ship paint? Are my nails going to fall off if I keep using that stuff?

Ok, I am 40 plus. I do get a pedicure with one of my best friends about every two or three weeks. Usually pick a loud color for my toes, and usually end up with some form of design on my big toes, right now they're blue with diamonds at the base. I work very hard for my money. I own my own house. I am on my feet all day, and it's pretty much the one thing I do for me. I usually wear covered shoes to work.... I dont think it looks trashy. It's just fun. I dont usually paint my fingernails, because I work with paper, and nail polish tends to rub off. I also dont wear makeup, because I dont feel like it, and because I figure working for a printer, my face gets enough chemicals on it. The pedi is my relief....my fun thing.
Oh....and when we go, we do get a lot of laughs at the crazy things people try.

Up until about 12 years ago, when I got my mid life crisis car, I regularly visited Jimmy at California nails for a gel fill. I had a coat of gel over my nails (no tips) to help strengthen them because I kept them quite long. About 1 1/2", including nail bed. I like the natural look, so they had to be very clean. You could see any time I got anything under them.
I initially cut them off to care for my car, and I have since realized that I like them much better short. Now, I don't do anything except keep them trimmed and clean.

I don't know what the shellac is, but I do get gel put on my real nails. It makes them thicker and stronger. If I use polish, it lasts a lot longer before chipping as well. Consequently, there's more time between manicures. If I have to take it off, for whatever reason, I just soak my fingertips in polish remover and use a hard rub to get it off.

I think the baby toe is needed for balance, just like (nails aside) the whole big toe is. So a long nail wouldn't work on the little toe.

i just can't imagine. I always wanted to take a vietnamese lanquage class, just so i can understand what they are saying about some of the people's feet that come in there.

Mine are about a 1/4 inch above the finger tip. Any longer and they get on my nerves. I also do the Shellac but need to get them done every 2 weeks..not becuase of the fading but my nails grow quickly. I do very light pinks so it is not so obvious when they need to get done.

I did notice at week 3 with the gel nails that the growth was obvious, so I guess mine grow fast too. I'm ready for anther trip to the salon but my bank account isn't.

Egads. Reminds me of the show "My Strange Addiction" where this one woman of color REFUSED to cut her fingernails and toenails. I was gagging the whole show.
