Are there any haunted places around Southern Maryland? Besides Point Lookout?
What are some local legends?

I hear MrZ06 is haunting your mother's bedroom. But he's no ghost, just a figmanet of his imagination.

There is a legend about a maid that was fired after a teenager who was too immature to clean up after herself, came back as a squid and inseminated the teenagers mouth.

You are correct in that many people on this forum are very childish.
And there is no realistic hope for those to grow up as they refuse to do that.

It is hard to find the real ghosts because most people are just so extremely afraid of the ghost, and in some cases their fear is justified.
Point Lookout is just a public display claiming ghost.
I say it really depends on your own motivation? as in if you just want to see the ghosts for amusement? or if you want to prove something? or do you want to talk with the spirits? and just how ready are you to be really scared? or do you want the safer kind of ghost?

Then there was that time that I was driving down a lonely road one dark and stormy night. When a little girl by the roadside showed up in my headlights. I stopped and she got in back and in a shaky tone. She said: My name is Mary, please won't you take me home?
She must have been so frightened all alone there in the night. There was something strange about her, for her face was deathly white. She sat so pale and quiet in the back seat all alone. I'll never will forget that night I took Mary home.
I pulled into the driveway where she told me to go. Got out to help her from the car and opened up the door. But I just could not believe my eyes 'cause the back seat was bare. I looked all around the car but Mary wasn't there.
A light shone from the porch, someone opened up the door. I asked about the little girl that I was looking for. Then a lady gently smiled and brushed a tear away. She said: It sure was nice of you to go out of your way.
But thirteen years ago today a wreck just down the road. Our darling Mary lost her life and we miss her so. Thank you for your trouble and the kindness you have shone. You're the thirteenth one who's been here bringing Mary home... it was that house...:shocking:

Try the book, Weird Maryland, available by request at your local public library (if you're not in Calvert County, your library can inter-library loan it for you.)
The book has many of the local "haunted" stories.

Surprised Dr. Mudd's house doesn't come up in these threads. I've lived near it my whole life (but never been inside - sad). But a gentleman I used to live by (who was completely sane) said they've had paranormal teams in there from a few universities and they pick stuff up. Then he told me he was in the attic with a few folks once when a clothes lines wheeled across the room. He said he ran out of the house as fast as he could.

Wife just rented an office in Leonardtown. We were there until 9 pm last night setting up for today. This morning, her office manager arrived and said that she was mad at me for leaving the window open. Wife told her I didn't. The story was told to the other tenants. Apparently, the previous tenant who passed away a year ago didn't like AC and always opened the windows. Both, the wife and her office mgr freaked.

Used to have a neighbor who claimed that her dead husbands radio in the shed would turn itself on after she killed him. The house is empty now - I suppose you could go sit in the shed, wait and see...
