Double Gulp No More: 7-Eleven Reduced Drink Size Even Before NYC Crackdown (http://www.theblaze.com/stories/double-gulp-no-more-7-eleven-reduced-drink-size-even-before-nyc-crackdown/)
We wonder if New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg knows that before he announced his proposed ban on sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces, 7-Eleven had already reduced its 64-ounce “Double Gulp” by 14 ounces.
Why did the convenience store giant shrink the size of its “Double Gulp”?
It’s not what you think. Contrary to what you might assume, 7-Eleven didn’t change sizes in preparation for Bloomberg’s controversial ban. No, it was for something much more practical: “Double Gulps” were too big for cup holders in most American cars, said 7-Eleven spokeswoman Margaret Chabris.
“It was a request for something that was a little more car-friendly,” she told The Daily.
7-Eleven estimates that 25 percent of the U.S. population lives within a mile of one of its stores, The Daily reports.
“The chain sells nearly 38 million gallons of fountain drinks per year worldwide, or enough to fill 50 Olympic-sized swimming pools,” the report adds.
Because of its ability to provide so many Americans with sugary goodness, The Daily asked Chabris whether she believes 7-Eleven has a responsibility to help fight obesity. She responded by pointing out that the chain sells an awful lot of diet and sugar-free drinks.

Anyone who knows me knows that I can't drive unless I have an enormous soda in my cup holder. But the DG is no good.

I was guilty of buying the DG the other day. I have a total Diet Coke addiction and wanted something to sip on throughout my daughter's 3 hour long dress rehearsal.
And no it did not fit in my cup holder

I just buy a medium with ice to the lid and a 2 liter and out the door I go.
Wonder how long before the keeper of the soda figures this out and comes after that?
The abject abject lack of seriousness of Mike Bloomberg is fascinating. Even more so when you consider that someone who made that much money and gained that much power in America thought this was serious enough to warrant government attention.
Is NYC in THAT good of shape where the mayor can focus on the sub atomic intrusion into betterment as he sees it? Or, is New York is in such bad shape that this is the best that can be done? I mean, somewhere in between is just...silly.

Think of telling your kid to mow the lawn. An hour later, lawn not mowed, and they're still walking around making sure there are no rocks in the grass.

Lost me there. If the kids are actually picking up rocks something productive is actually being done.
I just fail to see how anyone could have any concept of individual freedom and liberty and not laugh about Bloomberg and this. I mean, come on. This guy wants to limit soda while at the same time allow more dope smoking. This should be a bit on The Onion. Not the leader of the 'greatest' city in the world.

Criminalize sodi-pop while decriminalizing pot (http://www.infowars.com/bloomberg-backs-plan-to-limit-arrests-for-marijuana/).
I just love the irony of our progressive politicians.

The goal is to get the lawn mowed. Picking up rocks is necessary up to a point, but it is also something that is endless. You can spend weeks just searching between every blade of grass for a rock, but the lawn never gets mowed.
Is it a government function to promote the general welfare? Yes. The problem lies in the way they get lost in the minutiae and lose sight of the actual governing part they were elected to do.

I see your point but, just disagree with the effectiveness of the analogy. If only congress would pick rocks for years and years that would keep them from so much other mischief. And I think the goal is to get 'lost; in the minutiae. How else to explain the high rate of re-election? Congress consistently gets the lowest approval ratings yet has very high ones when it matters; in the booth.
