View Full Version : Comcast or Metrocast

We are switching from Verizon DSL to cable, ONLY internet as my hubby must have DirectTv for their Sunday ticket (and despite it possibly being offered via gaming systems he likes to watch several games at once so he needs multiple receivers).
We can apparently have either so do either have major issues (internet-wise) that would affect my decision?

I work in Calvert, and every office except for ours has Comcast. The others are down so often, that we gave them our code.
I have Metrocast at home in St Mary's and LOVE it!!!!!!!

Comcast is MUCH better than Metrocast... I have had both and I would NEVER go back to Metrocast... it pretty much sucks all the way around...

I've had Metrocast for internet service for over 3 years and have never had a problem.

Metrocast!! Have had it for 3 years. Good service and if something wrong not a lot of delay in getting it fixed. I had TV and phone but now just internet. I have Direct TV for shows and such. So yes, Metrocast here in St Mary's. Best way!

The 5 years I've been in St Mary's, I have not had a choice on internet and if I did I would drop metrocast at the drop of a hat. I have horrible technical support from them majority of the time. I would call their office, explain the internet is not working (which has happened half the days of the month at times), I will explain to them I have tried to turn the power off and on and I have connected straight tot he modem and they will still tell me to do these things (its like they don't listen to you and they are reading from some set manual instead). Then once they determine there is a problem (after I redo the steps I told them I already did), they will send someone out.
The headache does not end there. The technicians only come out Monday thru Friday and give you 4-5 hour windows that they will be at your house (which means you need to be home form work, they obviously don't appreciate the fact many of their customers have 9-5 M-F jobs). The tech will immediately blame the wiring in your house. They fiddle with that stuff say it should work and leave. Even though I assure them it won't. They send many techs out and do the same old dance until you get lucky with the one technician they have that knows what he is doing.
By the way, now they charge you for in home visits if they fix your internal house wiring and from my experience they are going to do that if that's the problem or not so get ready to pay more.
When verizon finally runs fios to the Park, I am getting rid of metrocast even if they get more competent techs because they've caused me such a headache already.
By the way I've lived at 5 different places these past 5 years and its all been the same with metrocast at all 5 places.

Why would you expect any other business to not have business hours? Is it because it is not convenient to you?

Another postive vote for Metrocast. They have been wonderful the few times I have needed tech support. Speed is fast and I get the rate I pay for everytime I do a speed test.

Yes it's a want. I could understand if a need item had bad business hours because you are kind of stuck. But with something that is not needed, you think they should be interested in serving their customers' convenience. Verizon installed my phone on a sunday and same thing for direct TV. Metrocast needs to get with the program or when other companies move in they will be screwed

Where are you at that you can get Comcast and Metrocast?
I'm in Northern St Mary's (very close to the Charles County line) .
I ended up going with Comcast because you do not have to rent the modem (we wanted to buy our own because the last time we "rented" something from a company we paid $5 a month for three years on a phone that was probably only worth $25.
We got it installed on Saturday and thus far I like it. Much faster than DSL.

They are interested in making money. They must be making it otherwise they would adjust their work hours.

98% of cable companies have monopolies. Besides if they worked weekends and nights our rates would go up. I dont want my rates to go up.

Same here, but it didn't stop a rental charge from reappearing on my bill at one point. Guess they weren't counting on me paying attention, wonder how many suckers are paying rent on modems they own?

I own my own Modem that I bought at BB. Registered with Metrocast and no rental charges. So must be isolated cases.... As far as installation on a Sunday; unless they are an independent contractor as a lot are for Direct-TV then I would not expect any major player to do a Sunday unless you are paying a premium.

When I looked into registering there was not a choice. Comcast had both but Metrocast did not. I am not saying they do not just when I signed up there was no option. I could have called CS but Comcast seemed to offer more for less price (introductory...about the same after that).

I have been happy with Metrocast so far. Much more so than Verizon. At least they have a local office and I can go talk to them if I need to. So far I haven't except to turn in a box I wasn't using anymore.
Oh this is for the internet. I also use them for TV, which I don't watch much. Dish was good for that. Mainly football.

See I am pretty much forbidden from dropping Direct TV EVER. Hubby not being able to watch two-three football games simultaneously and access to the Dolphin games...that would be grounds for divorce in my house.:killingme

Just chiming in here live in Huntingtown. Cal. Co. have had Comcast for the last 10 years, have had one major problem, logged a call with them and they came out and found it was at the junction box where they enterd the house, other than the cost no complaints at all about Comcast.
