House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., thinks that President Obama should unilaterally eliminate the debt ceiling, rather than negotiate with Congress to spend more money when the United States hits the debt ceiling later this year.

“I would like to see the Constitution used to protect the country’s full faith and credit, as the Constitution does,” Pelosi told reporters Wednesday (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/20/nancy-pelosi-obama-debt-crisis_n_1613553.html). She was endorsing the idea that Obama should use the 14th Amendment — which states that “The validity of the public debt of the United States . . . shall not be questioned” — to circumvent House Republicans who want spending cuts in exchange for another debt ceiling hike.

“I think he should [declare the debt ceiling unconstitutional],” Pelosi said (http://www.inquisitr.com/259550/nancy-pelosi-obama-should-use-constitution-to-avert-debt-crisis/#d5CR0yusDBLdyhoQ.99), though she wouldn’t predict Obama’s move. “I’m in a different branch of government. In the minority, in the House. What do I know about what the president’s going to do?”

Is it in the president's job description to declare things unconstitutional?



See if I had my way, I'd have someone else whose job it was to decide if things were consitutional. Maybe... 9 someone elses. And I'd put them in a whole other branch of government.


But that's just crazy talk, I guess.

Like I said in the other thread on this same topic, Pelosi should be impeached for violating the oath of office; she pledged to defend and uphold the Constitution. She isn't and is espousing violation of the separation of powers.

The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.
The House of Representatives is in charge of what the United States spends.

What the House to do and have the authority to do is cut the money for the executive branch; de-fund everything Obama does that is a unilateral move like this directive to purposely fail to enforce the law of the land for immigration. His directive rises to high crimes and misdemeanors.
