My wife and I noticed that something was being built on/near the site of the old Lighthouse restaurant tonight. Since that was her favorite restaurant, any ideas if it's being re-built? If not, what is it?

Last I heard the present owner is trying to find a corporate resturant or bar to rent the building.

There is no building at the old Light House restaurant, just an empty lot. Perhaps you are thinking about Catamarans? Both are prime locations for a restaurant, if you have deep pockets.

The footers are in place. I would imagine the building will be next.

Southern Maryland doesn't have enough of those.

Agreed! It would be nice to have a similar replacement to the Lighthouse. I really am tired of the corporate restaurant. Just ate at CD's Cafe and it was great! Maybe, something like that only a little bigger!

I LOVE CD Cafe, too.
Have you ever been to Back Creek Bistro on Dowell Rd? Wonderful food, wonderful service and a fantastic view. Hubby and I dined there last Friday night.

We haven't, but will make it a point to do so! Good independent restaurants are scarce in SOMD, so we welcome any new places! Thanks for the tip!

I really doubt if Red Lobstertail could afford that rent.

Right before the fire, my husband and I took an out of town guest to the Lighthouse. That was the 1st time I tried crab cakes and ...maybe it was the virgin taster in me that made it so delicious and wanting more...but I have tried crabcakes in other places and they have never measured up to my 1st time. I remember the server and all the wait staff were outstanding.
Shame some construction worker's tossed cigarette ruined the place (and could have taken many homes and businesses on the island if not for the water tugs)

Yep. Also, the filet mignon with peppercorn sauce was the bomb!

I was always impressed with the way they poured coffee. Wonder how many times someone missed?

At first they did the pouring close to the tables and gradually backed off and away from the tables. 'Zat tell ya' something :lmao:

More than food and the high pour coffee, we will miss helping out at his wonderful Thanksgiving meals for one and all.
That made a huge difference to so many people who had no family or no place to go. Giving back never tasted so sweet!

Another great (sorta local) seafood place is "Jerry's", just south of PF. It is not the high-pour coffee & nostalgia of the Lighthouse, but the food is outstanding & the staff is friendly.
+1 on CD & Back Creek Bistro too.
I'll admit to an Olive Garden visit once in a while & being glued to a barstool at Outback or CIP on occasion, but that is about it for the chains.

This is what I heard and since I know nothing about construction, I don’t know if it’s correct or not. I heard that the permits to rebuild were going to run out soon and so the owner had to begin construction on the footers to extend it, even though there was no immediate plan as to what was being built. Does that sound plausible?

I guess, but don't know much about permits. Hopefully, the owner will rebuild. We really miss the place!

The owner of the property and restaraunt passed away from cancer last year. I know the person that bought the property said that he was planning to build a restaraunt and rent it out; to possibly a chain. He is not interested in running the business himself.

Ok, cool! I used to talk to Joan at Calypso Bay because she was there almost every Friday night as I used to be...until I found a better crowd to hang out with.
