Why is this touted as a discount store? Their chit is ridiculously expensive. I am not going to pay $40 for a bra that doesn't come from VS. And I am not going to pay $80 for an ice cream machine when I can get the exact same one at Amazon for $50. Not to mention I was looking for a new summer purse and they wanted $50 for this little tiny nothing of a bag.
I have a question, and this is very serious:
WTH???

The mark-up is so extreme because of their marketing ploy bombarding you with promotional promises of "15% off of everything in the store today only!" or "three days only!" etc. and there "Kohl's bucks!"
As long as folks are dumb enough to go to Kohl's hoping to "cash in" on the marketing ploys, Kohl's will continue to keep the prices high.
JC Penneys finally got wise to the fact they were actually loosing business by using such ploys which is why they changed their pricing and their marketing ploys to no longer try to entice you in with "bait bargains". If you want to know what JCP has on discount that week, then you have to visit the store and look for the signs.

That right there is why I rarely go into Belk anymore. They'd send this thing in the mail - Save 20% on Everything in the Store!!! Then you read the fine print and it excludes just about everything they stock. Here, here's a Ronco immersion blender - you can have 20% off that.

I'm not a fan of Kohl's. The clothes from their in-house designers are pretty poor quality and the name brand stuff isn't any cheaper than anywhere else. I do like the Food Network brand dishware/serveware and I think that's the only place you can buy it. Other than that I have no use for them.

I hate the new way JC Penneys is marketing. I havent shopped there since theyve changed them. Its now supposedly the "best price everyday" no coupons or sales needed...um so explain to me how the jeans I have been buying my boys for 5 years now on sale @ 2 for $40 are now the "everyday low price of $25 each" :eyebrow:
I think a lot of it is the CARD...would you like to use your Kohls card today? JC Penney card? Sears card? It seems like when I shop at these places I am the only one paying cash or using my atm card.

Thats all I do is shop their clearance rack. Within a month of somethign coming out "new" its on their clearance rack. Like right now I am shopping for school clothes for the kids. You can get a lot of the winter stuff up to 80% off. Which if they can sell it that low on clearance why not just price it at that in the first place. Really makes me feel like those people who bought it at full price got bent over hard!!!
If you plan it right and already need to get those items it can coinside w/ their kohls cash promotion. When if that happens I use that to get items like food processor, blender, etc...

So the pants go on sale for 2 for $40? Then the per item price not on sale is probably more than the $25 they offer now. Make sense? The prices are cheaper than the regular price (no sale) not when they are on sale.

Those flyers JCP sends out are worthless, and probably cost a fortune. They could save all that money by not sending out the flyers.

It's not just Kohl's -- Macy's markup is way worse. That said, I rarely pay full price for anything at Kohl's or anywhere else for that matter. I only buy stuff on sale and use the coupons I am inundated with in my email. I don't have a Kohl's card either (too dangerous) but you can still get some pretty good deals without one.

I get what they are trying to do, but I am not paying $5 for the same jeans because they are trying a new way to compete w/ Kohls. I will just get them at Kohls for 2 for $40 or off the clearance rack

The Consumerist » JCPenney Giving Up On The Whole “No More Sales” Thing (http://consumerist.com/2012/06/jcpenney-giving-up-on-the-whole-no-more-sales-thing.html)
Remember in January when JCPenney had that revolutionary idea -- touted in a series of not at all grating ads -- of getting rid of "sales," and just lowering everyday prices by around 40%? Apparently, the shoppers of the world didn't get the message and JCP is bringing back the "S word."
While the retail chain did actually lower its prices -- a fact confirmed for the most part by our cohorts at ShopSmart -- it looks like bargain-hunters didn't come running, perhaps because they weren't being reminded of specific discounts via the coupon mailers JCP decried in its ad campaign.

Funny you say that. I had a friend who worked at Kohls and she told me one time that Kohls only had 2 sales a year. One from January to June and the second one from July to December.

Same here. We don't use our credit cards anymore, only for emergencies. If we don't have the money for something, we don't buy it. Well, except for our house and car loans. As for store cards, the interest rates are always insane and not worth having imo.

Okay, but if everything is on sale, then nothing is on sale. Kohl's kills me. Say they have a sweater and the price tag says it's $60, but the sign above the rack says "Everything 20% off" so they have $60 stuff marked down to $48. That sign is always there, because as you said everything is always on sale, so that is not a $60 sweater, it's a $48 sweater (which is cheaply made and in all honesty is probably a $20 sweater). The $60 is an arbitrary number meant to convince you that you're getting a deal. They mark their stuff up so that they can put it "on sale", when the sale price is just the normal price that you'd pay anywhere else.

Before you go on about the new JC Penny pricing, you better do a little reading about how their business has fallen off the table and that they're firing the CEO who changed their marketing. It's not working out so well!

stores are not willing to lose money, if they can take a 45 dollar pair of shorts and make money selling them "on sale" for 50% off, I look at it like they are really ripping you off on anything that is not on sale.

YOu may laugh but that shiat works. In a grocery store I worked at as a kid if some meat wasnt selling we would put a higher price on it with a coupon that still resulted in more than the original price and that stuff would fly off the shelf. Unless of course it wasnt gray yet then we would just change the date on it.

Customers are just as much to blame for this as the stores. Customers claim they hate sales, coupons, and confusion. Then in the same breath, unless it is a necessity, customers anymore act like they should not spend their money unless they are getting some crazy something for nothing deal. Everytime a company tries to move to low every day prices, sales drop like a rock. Happened to JCPenney, Dell in the past, and others. Only place I have seen it work for is Walmart..but that is also where people get most of their necessities.
That being said, Kohls is the extreme to the point it insults your intelligence. Whenever we go in, it always shows us saving twice as much as we paid..when obviously no one would pay the original price to start.
Sales are down 20%
I betcha it was those damn queer shirts that did it..... :coffee:

 I started reading, then I got lost in thought because people were bashing Khol's, and you thought my jeans were over priced at 29.99, and white kids can't go to college, and Vrai is almost famous, and JCP's sales are down since they got rid of sales...
I'm just  :jameo:

New here, huh? I'll give you a couple of hints. The topics rarely stay on the same topic in one thread, and you better grow some thick skin or you'll never make it here.

Shhh dont let the word out on their clearance racks :cds:
I agree w/ you on the quality of Kohls clothing. They have that return anything policy because their crap falls apart almost immediately.
I have never had a problem with anything I've bought there from shoes to lingerie to swimsuits to sweaters. Maybe I've just been lucky.

Yep, I don't shop in Penney's anymore since they eliminated all their coupons and sales. Their prices are way too high unless it is a special deal. I don't think I've ever paid full price for anything at Kohls: everything's 30-60% off to start and I always have a 20 or 30% off coupon. The cashier's even ring up the discount if I forget the coupon.

WTH???
You're right! Expensive as heck.. BUT, all you have to do is sign-up for one of their credit cards (just don't use it) and they will send you a grunch of 10%, 20% and up to 50% off... I bought a $180.00 leather jacket for $79.00!
