DRUNKEN couples have been hit by a landmark injunction – after being caught having sex in a Birmingham graveyard.
The city council and West Midlands Police acted after reports of boozed-up men and women cavorting around St Mary’s Church.
They have now issued a Section 222 order which means anyone caught having sex in public could be fast-tracked to jail.
Those spotted swigging booze, begging or urinating in the streets will also be hauled before a judge where they could be fined or locked up.
The crackdown on anti-social behaviour comes after reports of street drinkers having sex within the confines of the mediaeval church, which dates back to 1405, and the local park.
Christine Williams, manager of Moseley Park, said: “A week ago, one of the park rangers saw one of the drinkers with a woman...
“The ranger threw them out.’’
The Birmingham Community Safety Partnership has brought in the Section 222 order, which means locals can simply call police on 101 for fast action.
Mrs Williams said: ‘‘If any of them come to the church gates now, I can call a number whereas before we were having to get in touch with the police and we couldn’t always get through.
