Anyone in the Port Republic area out of cable service. We have been out since last night. Their recording says they are working on it. I haven't seen any comcast workers anywhere in the county.

We just got ours back in northern st marys at about 7ish. I mean yeah it sucked but there are still people w/o power so its hard to complain too much about internet. (we only have internet service so I am assuming tv is the same)

Our power went out in Port Repbulic Friday night and Saturday morning around 10AM, SMECO came and our power was restored. I turned the TV on and comcast cable was still working fine.
I haven't seen one comast truck out. I live on a main road - we didn't even lose power - but Comcast is still out and I haven't seen anyone working.

Take it with a grain of salt... the actual problem may be miles down the road at a feeder/amplifier station or downed wire. Just because you don't see anyone right on your street doesn't mean the problem isn't being worked.
And your post about the cost to visit for SMECO issues... I'm sure your customers are livid......

Power, but no cable in Huntingtown
The worst thing is the total lack of information. Nothing on the website other than: We are experiencing an outage. When I went to customer service with online chat, they only posted a canned response that they are working on it and that I can request a credit for the down time once service is restored. I, for one, would like to know WHY the cable has been out for four days. I cannot imagine how difficult it is for businesses that use comcast for their phone and internet. Smeco reports that as of 6:00 last night all power has been restored in Calvert and St. Mary's.

I have a back-up connection, however that one is slower and screws up some applications as it changes its IP addresses ever so often
My Comcast was out for two days, doing some diagnostics I found out that the problem was 2-3 links down the line, between our local switch and the big interconnect hub in Ashburn,VA (where all the network and telecom companies hook up to each other, the 'internet east'). So the fact that you dont see Comcast trucks in your neighborhood doesn't mean that nobody is working on the outage.

Most cable outages can't be solved until the power comes back up. Then the maintenance tech must track down the issues. It could be fuses, bad amplifiers, bad cable, the trunk/feeder could be pulled out enough to cause a bad connection but not be obvious, shorts in the feeder or various equipment, power issues at a location that would effect the feed to your house, bad power supplies, bad fiber, all the trees may not be removed from the downed lines, and there are many more issues. I remember a storm a few years ago and tore up most of the cable lines feeding Scientists Cliffs and it took a long time to recover all that. Usually if there is enough damage the cable needs to be completely replaced and they have contractors that can do that quickly but because damage can be wide spread it may take a little while to get to your area. I remember the node my parents live on would have outages caused by BGE power outages, but my parents were fed from Smeco. I know all the maintenance techs that work in Calvert, There are only 5 and when there are outages maintenance techs will come from other counties to help, BUT there have been outages in all surrounding counties and they are working as fast as they can. During the hurricane last year they were working 16-20 hours a day 7 days a week to get the cable back up and all I saw was complaining from the public.
The good thing is, cable is an option and you don't have to have it. You don't like the service after a very destructive storm you can get dish and dial up.
And no, I no longer work for the dreaded cable company, but know how the process works. I do hate how expensive the bills are but continue to pay it.

What difference does it make if they explain why it is out? That won't make it start to work any faster. It's out because of the storm.

It does make a difference. People are griping that they dont see any comcast trucks out when in fact the problem was up the road, not at the neighborhood level.

No, but there is no point griping about your local comcast man.

Our T1 (phone and data) went out last Friday and just came back up sometime yesterday afternoon.
Never lost power though.
