Just visited my favorite local produce stand... husband and wife duo who set up behind the Leonardtown Exxon and Taco Bell.

He overpicked last night and is having a great sale on large (I believe he said each contains 5 - 6 dozen ears) of freshly picked corn. I told him I thought some of you were interested so I'd come back home and post it...:starcat:

I got a baker's dozen for dinner tonight...:yum:

I always try to freeze fresh corn but it winds up super sweet and mealy. All I do is husk it,and throw it in a freezer bag. I've also tried cooking it first, but it never comes out right. Any advice?

And they don't have Trossbach peaches do they? I'd love some of that but don't want to drive all the way down.

I've never frozen Corn, but a Friend of ours has. He Blanched it first. He told us that he looked up Blanching on-line. I learned something new Friday, and it worked. I put the whole ear of Corn in the Microwave, husk & all. Cooked 4 minutes, cut the blunt end off, and the Cob slid out without one bit of Silk, and it was cooked to perfection.!

Sooooo, the peaches that I bought yesterday - and enjoyed today - must be a figment of my imagination.

I got them at the Trossbach farmers market stand.

Yum... fresh corn on the cob.

The national corn crop apparently isn't looking so good this year though...

Corn Crop Shrivels: 'Should Be 7 to 9 Foot Tall by Now' (http://www.cnbc.com/id/48058304)

The size and quality of the U.S. corn crop continues to deteriorate as scorching heat in the corn belt threatens the crop during its critical pollination, or "tasseling" stage.

The amount of the corn crop that is in good to excellent condition keeps shrinking, now making up 48 percent of the crop compared to 56 percent last week and 63 percent the week before.

...

“Corn should be seven to nine foot tall right now,” said Rich Nelson, head of research at Allendale. “All these reports of three to six foot corn is a little disappointing.”

Yummy, thanks Kwilla. I also like Russells stand on St. Andrews Church Rd, but she is a little high on her stuff including the corn, but it's the best I've ever had.

They come in season the end of June through the end of Aug. You can get them at the BAE Market and the Home Grown Farm Market just south of gate 3. Also at McKays and a variety of roadside stands. Better get them soon though will probably be gone in a couple more weeks
