That's a well know brand name.

My sister is currently getting on installed that runs on propane, not sure what brand she's installing

That's a well know brand name.:yeahthat: They build quality units.
I'd wait though. You'll pay a premium right now. Let the recent storm hooplah die down. Best time to buy is after October if you can hold out that long.

Generac usually get good reviews for reliabilty but noisier than Honda, Subaru, and Yamaha. Less money=more noise. Depends on your situation.

Try to avoid a Tecumseh motor if you can. Briggs, Honda or Subaru motors.

Got a whole house GE propane installed recently = $$$ but worth it to me. We have been out as much as 8 days in a row ice storm 1994...

Before that a Generac 6500 XL that started every time I needed it. It was a gasoline model which I will keep as a double backup and convert to LP.

Keep up with maintenance if you buy one run it (connected) once a month LP is better than gasoline obviously.

Good luck.

And OBTW your posts are insane......

:howdy:

Yeah Baja is right wait a little bit.

All about the engine. If the engine is not a good brand or it says Generac and it's gas it's probably a cheap Chinese motor that may get you through one or two storms. If it is under $1000 then it is most likely junk. Basically don't get it from lowes or home depot. Go to a local shop.

If whole house than you are good to go.

Had a whole house (Generac 14KW) generator put in after the Hurricane fiasco last year. It took about 8-weeks after that event to actually get one as Generac got so many orders that it took them that long to catch up with the demand. I'm not sure how slammed they will get from this storm, but you might need to wait a month or so even if you got one ordered today.

This weekend was the first time we needed to the generator for any length of time and it ran from basically 10PM Friday until about 11AM today. Looked pretty odd coming home and everything is dark except our house. Nice to have the A/C working during this time as well...

Best money we could have spent.

Powertech Electric has at least 4 whole house Generac Generators in stock. Also has portable generators in stock and can do all the electrical work for either type generator. He is a licensed, insured and bonded. He can also tell you the story of the people that called Saturday morning about their whole house Generac Generator running because they lost their power in the Friday nite storm. More storms are moving this way and it is also hurricane season.

I've had a 25Kw Generac at my house for seven years. Never had a problem. It ran perfectly for six days after Ernesto, and less than that during other storms, Nor'easters, Ice storms, Irene, etc!

Make sure you do routine PM and have it cycle once a week.

Don't get one that runs on gasoline, had a 15kw and it would burn about 16 gal in 8 hrs or so if I remember correctly, something outrageous like that. Cost of fuel was bad enough but the hassle of re-fueling was just as bad.

That's a good idea, but how many electricians can hook that up to your house? I have heard stories of old guys picking up a -86 and building a shed for it while running power to their house in case of emergencies (but I have never seen it).

Any electrician should be able to hook it in. Need to add another $500+ for a transfer switch, then getting automatic start and weekly exercise installed would be more $$.

After Irene, we got one of the few that were left; can't remember where as I write this; but, we oiled and gassed 'er up and she ran until we got power back. The N-D-N even plugged into it, and it never missed a beat.
Funny part was, we live on the back street in the neighborhood. We had power back for almost a whole day before we realized we could turn of the genny. I saw a street light on, one street over and thought, 'Hmmm.....' Then it dawned on me to turn off the back up. :BOING!!:

There's a CHEAP alarm you can by that wraps around your incoming wires and detects power to those wires..

Then it flashes lights (on the detector) and gives an audible alarm..

Ft Meade has a LARGE DRMO..

Log on and start bidding.

Had a guy show me a flat bed there that he won for $500.. Brand new 18 wheel flat bed trailer that someone used to turn in a old dilapidated shed.

I like your style and where you are heading with this but thanks to landscaping in my yard, I was thinking more of a M1009 to haul it with (less damage and beotching from her)

I think I googled the right thing.....
It's an automatic disconnect that kicks the generator out of the loop when shore power is restored. Just need to put hands on one now; or before the next storm.
