I am looking to have a coat of paint thrown on my fathers old Celica. Not looking for anything show quality, just something that will last a year or two and make the car one color, instead of the silver/primer grey combo it is sporting right now. I am hoping that $500 would be enough for someone to do this. Is there anyone here who would want to take this job or have a buddy that does this kindof work? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chuck

Thanks. I have seen some good and bad Maaco jobs. I heard that, if you do the prep work yourself, the Ambassador deal comes out decent.

It used to be Earl Scheib "I'll paint any car for $29.95" but he's long gone.
I had a friend get one of those. No prep included. He came back with blue everything  tires, wheels, chrome and a good portion of the windows

Ouch. That is only useful for the demolition derby cars at budds creek

Get a few gallons of bedliner.
Cover your entire car.
Don't worry about scratches, or washing it anymore.

That would make it look worse than it already does

Interesting concept for an airport or train station beater car....

If you're in a real bind, you can paint a car with spray cans. Just make sure the body work is flawless. Yeah, it's a dumb way to do it, but it could be one of those things that looks good from a distance.
Edit: And, if you choose to keep the car and have a professional job done; the "spray can method" can show where more extensive body work may be needed.

I'm far from an expert, but I've dabbled in body work ona few of my vehicles.
It comes down to the prep work, and how well you do that. Paint is easy to put on, getting it to stay there is the problem

I'm thinking about doing it to my beater car. For some reason, doors, and other vehicles are magnetized to it.
but you won't have to worry about chipping the paint.
I'm more worried about the extra weight. My poor car only has 88HP, and I may as well get out and run when the a/c is on. I'm not sure the ole' girl can handle anymore weight.

Yea, and you can even get your original paint color in spray cans. That way, at least your door jams won't stick out like a sore thumb.
There's tons of videos on YouTube on how to do it properly. Hell, I've seen guys use home laytex paint and roll it on their cars

I brush painted a Pinto once gloss white. Didn't look bad if you stayed at least 10 feet away.

I can try to take a few this weekend. I attempted to do the bodywork myself and it came out decent, considering it was the first time I had ever done bodywork. Im not too worried about the body looking perfect. This is a 17 year old Toyota Celica that my father bought for me in high school, and once I graduated college, came home, got a job and a truck, I gave the car back to him. He isnt too worried about the body lines, he just wants a coat of paint on it.
