MOTORISTS: TELL US WHAT IT’S LIKE OUT THERE
Participate in the Maryland Annual Driving Survey
Do Maryland drivers cause you concern? Is the State doing all it could to ensure safety on Maryland’s roadways?
The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration is interested in your opinion. A brief survey of its highway safety programs is being offered by the MVA’s Highway Safety Office. The survey aims to identify the problems on Maryland’s roadways, assess the public’s perception of enforcement and prevention programs, and ultimately, help improve safety on Maryland’s roads.
“Each year, over 500 people die on Maryland’s roadways. Your input will help us shape our highway safety programs,” said MVA Administrator John Kuo. As the Governor O’Malley’s Highway Safety Representative, Kuo leads the efforts of the Maryland Highway Safety Office.
The Maryland Highway Safety Office surveys Maryland’s motorists about pressing safety issues, including drunk driving, speeding, aggressive driving, motorcycle safety and more. The surveys help in the development of programs that decrease motor vehicle crashes, deaths and injuries.
The Maryland Highway Safety Office’s Annual Driving Survey addresses:
• the behaviors that contribute to the risk of crashing;
• the knowledge about Maryland’s driving laws;
• the attitudes related to driving laws and behaviors; and
• the awareness of outreach efforts to combat the risks associated with certain driving behaviors.
Last year’s survey revealed:
• 45% were supportive of a law requiring Ignition Interlock devices for first time DUI offenders.
• 29% felt it was likely that they would get a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt.
• Approximately half of the drivers who drank claimed that they wore a seatbelt, though they also admitted to driving above the 65mph posted speed limit.

I'll do it J, but I suspect it will be like last year, where it's more about seeing how many people noticed the efforts they make, and the questions about concerns seem to feed into solely into the same issues they have already identified.
Sort of a "Did you notice our ads about how well we hammer things?" "Have you seen any nails sticking up we could hammer?". But nary a way to talk about loose screws and bolts, because the only tool we have is a hammer, so all we want to talk about is nails.

Meh, seems to be a tool to measure how many people have seen the advertising campaigns. And I notice more questions about speeding, wonder how that data will be used. No questions about what the public perceives to be the most dangerous driving behaviors.
Looks like a survey prompted by an ad agency.
"Gee, governor, we surveyed marylanders and they don't have a clue about these programs. Give us x dollars and we'll help you spread the word."

Whoever designs these survey questions knows absolutely nothing about designing surveys OR they really don't want to know. Pick one.
Don't bother wasting your time.

Having driven in every state east of the Mississippi and over half west of there, I've come to the conclusion that no matter where I am, the world's worst drivers have preceded me.
Something, which may have an impact...yank licenses for distracted driving as well as dui/dwi.

Anyone who uses surveymonkey to gather public information is a light-weight, amateur or they are someone outside of authority trying to sell an agenda.

surveymonkey - used by the state and county data. This is a federally-mandated survey, required annually for funds distributed to the state. Do or don't ....it is a requirement to gather the data.

So I was right, it really means nothing to the state, they are not really caring what we think, just getting numbers to get money.

Nope - means plenty to the state. Data drives the initiatives, programs, etc.
Follow up data - survey - helps to determine if the initiatives properly, appropriately, or most effectively implemented.
Federal funds are expended - based on federal mandates. However, little means of follow up/measure - except for crash data - was used to determine how effective a program, operation, initiative - so forth. Maryland implemented survey tools as a measure - which have been a most useful tool in many measures. As such, this information is used in reporting to the FEDS - and now the FEDS found this to be a means to reach a more conclusive finding - that is is now required - in various wording/outreach efforts/times of year - etc....but required in all states. Maryland led the way, uses the data/samples received to direct/drive, and is required to have information to the FEDS.
As for "caring" - yes the state "cares" about you, your safety, the safety of others, and the behaviors of each and every as it relates to roadway safety.
How can we best answer in a way to try and cut the state out of any federal money? since it goes to the illegals instead of where it is supposed to go, I would like to see the money go to a decent state where it can actually do some good.

Yep, glad I made an impression on you. :diva: When asked why the survey didn't appear to ask drivers about anything Maryland Drivers really care about, the answer given was that the purpose of the survey was to gather data to support the awarding of grant money.
That says to me that it's not really a survey to measure what MD drivers think are the real issues we need to focus on. I should have said that survey should have a more honest title, to reflect whats it's true purpose is. See the other responses, nobody thinks this survey is a good way to see what Maryland Drivers think.
J, please let me clarify. The people who put this survey together do not have any interest in finding out what Maryland Drivers see as relevant issues, the survey is designed to measure other things than that. And I know in MD state government there are thousands of people who do care, from the engineer who builds the roads, the crews who repair them, the officers who patrol them, etc. My apologies to them.

That survey is discriminating and offensive to me.
Maryland driving survey...why don't they make a survey of how MY ASS feels sitting in traffic!! :1bdz:

you should get a job in Montgomery county and join the 3 other people that are willing to pay 4 bucks to go 10 miles on the ICC,
you know, that road that was going to end all traffic tie ups from maryland to China? that one?
I figure at the current rate, it should be paid for in about 2.5 million years.
Of course, Ehrlich was wrong when he defunded it because it was basically a road to nowhere.

Im sorry if it offends your MPD because I would rather not see my tax dollar spent on illegals.
Im sure that there are plenty of real Americans that could benefit from that money. So I suggest it go to a state that will spend it properly instead of wasting it on vermin.

Do you know what I am addicted to, I am addicted to putting paper through the paper shredder, specifically WHITE PAPER. I enjoy watching it shred into the trash bin. Maybe I should buy a wood chipper and put your white trash through it, that would really give me an orgasm.
You're just mad because you live in ####ty ass southern MD. I bet when you get really drunk at your boring parties and stuff you make out with dear and have sex with your neighbors goats. That's pretty much how I picture your type of people. I bet you drive a pickup or sum sort of gas guzzling junk, am I right?
BTW, thanks for picking up that deer I hit last week..did it taste good? :buddies:

Let me just add to that comment you made on "real Americans"...
What do you know about being a real American. You live in the middle of nowhere, you run from modern society, you don't do jack #### for this country all day and everyday, complain about Obama and his ass being Black and you come on here talking like you have more rights than me, a real ####ing American.
You know what your definition of a real American is buddy, it's being able and free to scratch your ass all day, reek of alcohol, clean your guns, mow your lawn, watch Larry The Cable Guy on TV, listen to country music, #### your spouse; in your case a goat, work at home depot, wal-mart or wherever the #### you work.. you think that qualifies someone as a real American? Your beliefs are that your ancestors magically fell from the sky onto Northern America, you believe immigrants are "vermin", vermin to a multicultural country , a country that was based, founded and created by immigrants.
America does not run on Dunkin my silly friend, nor was it founded by Dunkin.
You need to really educate yourself a little sir.

Hey Evita, are you an Uppity Black person or just a JP Cusic MPD?:killingme

Good job, I do know the correct spelling, why, because I check for errors using my intelligent brain before posting. Who's Evita to you a black person?? Who ever Evita is I totally agree with her, you are a RACIST! Instead of stating X user called me the N word you decided to use the term in its entirety. And your definition of enigma I do not comprehend, it must be the red version.
